Posted project update #6Sound Mixing the Official Trailer ...and what that's all about
Post Comment
Since November, rough cuts and additions to the film were tested and screened. We're happy to report that the editing is about 95% of the way there. Above is a picture of us working on the sound mix for the trailer.
Over the weekend we squeezed into the busy schedule at Summing Point, the mixing studio in Newport, RI where the other half of this project will come alive. As in every film, sure there's what you see but the other and almost more important aspect to any movie or 'motion picture' is sound! It's 50% of the product and even more difficult to work with because you can't see it. You need to have skilled professionals listening to and tweaking everything that will be heard.
Some background on Summing Point:
Summing Point has been around for over 15 years in Newport recording local and traveling bands and artists. They've done some pretty amazing and notable work over the years. What's something they've done you ask? How about working with blues legend Paul Jeremiah? Not only was the song tracked (recorded in the studio) and mixed (with software to create a final product), but the compilation album this particular song ended up on was nominated for a Grammy. That's right, a Grammy! The studio proudly displays the nomination on its wall.
More recently, Summing Point welcomed filmmaker Wes Anderson and cast into the studio to perform ADR work (voiceover narration and re-recording lines) for the upcoming film Moonrise Kingdom starring Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Tilda Swinton & Bill Murray. They filmed 100% in Rhode Island over the 2011 summer.
Summing Point has also joined with another local company who helped immensely with equipment rentals during Night's production phase. Video & Vision now houses their operations within the Summing Point studio location so they can work together. The setup is incredible. What they can do in one day could take weeks trying to coordinate apart.
Well, enough about the studio. Let's talk about Night. When the heck are you going to get to see the trailer?!?! Now that the sound mix is 99% completed we are hoping to have an official release in the next day or so. Color correction is also finalizing so that it looks perfect!
Yeah, yeah, yeah. When the heck is the short going to get done? You want your copy!!!! Realistically, copies won't be sent out until April. The short is edited and almost ready for sound mixing but that process won't take 2 days like the trailer. There's a whole list of things that need to get recorded (sound effects) and then all the details that go into what sound we already do have (mostly lines).
As the edit progresses, we should have more updates. Film Festival entries will begin to come in between now and the fall of 2012. We will release any acceptances that we get and the locations in case you want to go see it in a theater!
Are you a Night fan on Facebook yet? If you answered no... well, why not? If you answered yes... ask your friends to become fans and let's continue to spread the word!

Posted project update #4Principal Photography Completed!
We're done! Well, almost. We still have a few days here and there to fill in the gaps between scenes with some establishing footage. This past weekend we were able to complete the last big section of the short. With a great crew and amazing performances from Bill & Penny it went so well we got some extra shots in. You will not be disappointed!
Thank you for all your support. We never would have been able made this short without your contributions. This weekend alone was huge!
A trailer is still on the way! Enjoy this screenshot of Bill & Penny from the shoot.

In the meantime, check out another promo shot of Bill Doherty Jr. mid-scene from Wednesday.
Another huge thank you goes out to all of you. We have been able to step up with equipment and locations because of the funding. We could not have done it without you!!
