Posted project update #1Throwing in the Towel
I stopped writing last Friday, just shy of 20,000 words. I'm giving up. I wanted you guys to be the first to know that I'm not going to complete my NaNoWriMo novel this year. I'll blame it on the circumstances conspiring against me, but there's just too much stacked against it. The story isn't coming together and I've got too much going on in my life to spend an hour and a half every morning beating my head against a story that doesn't work.
I'm sorry. I didn't want to give up. If the story were working I'd find a way to stick with it. If work wasn't so slow I could justify the time to stick with it. But as it is, the stress and lack of sleep isn't worth it. If I'm going to be stressed and tired, I should at least be paying the bills. I've learned that when your wife tells you how stressed you are, it's wise to listen.
But failure isn't a total loss. Sometimes I think we need to try crazy, ridiculous ideas and fail. The part of the story I most enjoyed was writing about Como Park. Some day I'd like to come back to that, probably in a non-fiction format.
I want to thank you guys, my backers, for supporting me in this crazy idea. It ultimately flopped--and you won't have to pay up on your pledges--but I still appreciate your support. It means a lot to me.
thanks,
Kevin D. Hendricks

Sorry to hear that Kevin. But congratulations on failing, it is a great sign that you're trying to accomplish big things. Way to go.
Guess I'll have to get my mold-a-rama by actually visiting the zoo.
