Posted project update #1030 hours left and counting. Meet Aambr...
Post CommentDear TCMP Community,
Our instructor and lead artist Juana Alicia will be on KPFA's La Raza Chronicles tonight at 7pm (PST) talking about our mural. Listen Live here.
Because you have stepped up to support this mural; because you wanted to support us, a group of young activist artists; because we both believe in what we are doing; we hope that we can come together in this last stretch of our campaign and encourage others to do the same. Please, share our campaign with your network of superstars and get the word out about this special project!
We live in a time when many current and important issues are in debate that will affect the lives of future generations. We, the True Colors class of Berkeley City College, have come up with an idea that merges education, art, and technology. Our mural will stand as a shining example of how a group of visionary young artists can redefine the way people can interact with a mural. Our time has arrived!

Posted project update #9Less than 36 hours and counting down...
Post CommentWe are elated that many of you have stepped up and supported our efforts. We are excited that 119 backers pushed us to our goal. But even though we reached our Kickstarter goal, it represents only a portion of the fundraising work still awaiting us, and we still need folks to pledge to reach our true goal. We didn't want to set our Kickstarter sights too high, opting for a less stress-inducing campaign of $6,000 while applying for other funding sources. Your response took us by surprise and we hope to continue that momentum. The mural's total cost is over three times the amount of our campaign. We are happy to have made it, and welcome all additional support.
We want to say THANK YOU to the following superstars and welcome them to the TCMP community: Ra, Kim Thoman, Edgar Cervano-Soto, Ana Maria Darson, and Elena Featherston. Join the community and give today!
Please continue to share this link via facebook, twitter, or through text messages.

Posted project update #8The Village Grows and Goes Surfing!
Post CommentGreetings TRUE COLORS MURAL PROJECT's dedicated community!
With 2 days left in our campaign - we wanted to introduce you to another one of the environmental justice leaders depicted in the Fresh Start mural, 21 year old founder of Surfers for Change, Kyle Thiermann! We've included a quick bio and video about Kyle, and can't express the importance of such a dynamic, young, local leader who can inspire many people to do the type of work that needs to be done. History can be made by anyone passionate enough about a cause, and Kyle is a perfect example of someone whose passion turned into worldwide change! Please take a minute to learn about his story as we reach out to the surfing community and rally support in the last days of our fundraising campaign! (also soon we will be adding a picture of True Colors' muralist Aambr Newsome's comic style portrait of Kyle for the Fresh Start mural at Realm Middle and High School in Berkeley, California.)

Posted project update #5REALM School at West Berkeley...Meet Ms.Moody
Post CommentHello Backers!Thank you for all your support as we reach our halfway mark on our Kickstarter campaign and the halfway mark of our mural project. Today, we added colors to the wall! We are halfway there! Please continue to let other people know about our campaign so that we can reach our goal and complete the Fresh Start Mural! We have only 8 days left to go!
Now that you have gotten to know the True Colors student muralists from previous updates, we also want to introduce you to our partner site, REALM Charter School in West Berkeley. Our partnership with REALM School is guided by their philosophy of providing: " a project-based, technology-rich learning environmentthat promotes critical and socially responsive perspectives. This means that students will learn to think about the world as a set of interconnected systems that can be affected through rigorous studies and action. Students will navigate and create complex information networks, virtual worlds, and immersive learning environments by utilizing emerging technologies. Moreover, through culturally relevant instruction and curricula, students will recognize and own theirability to shape our world and to better humanity".
"Fresh Start" mural Project with REALM involves the students and thecommunity to navigate complex information utilizing emerging technologies. The audience not only view the mural, but also play with the design that becomes an actual living experience. Our collaboration with REALM School has been very exciting and inspiring. The exchange of information and skills has embodied a true sense of the power of collaboration. True Colors Mural Project and REALM School is providing West Berkeley neighborhood a gift of a high quality, enduring and meaningful mural- and an opportunity to educate the community about the challenges and solutions to support ecological sustainability and social justice in our neighborhoods.
To give you a closer look, we bring you Ms. Moody!, our backer and geometry teacher at REALM. She talks about why everyone one should support this project and how this project has benefitted the students at REALM.
