Joke and Biagio

Married team and filmmaking duo Joke and Biagio started Dying to do Letterman out of their one-bedroom apartment six years ago. Editing on an Ikea kitchen table, they put all of their money into making this movie instead of buying better furniture.

Dying to do Letterman Rewards: UPDATE

    Rewards Coming Soon!

    Hey everyone!

Thanks for all your patience and support with our Dying to do Letterman campaign.

The DVD extras are almost finished, and all the reward packages will go out soon.

Depending on some of the printing of the items and dvd replication we're hoping to start shipping in early April.  Thanks for all your patience, and we hope you'll love your rewards as much as we've loved making them.

    Your Surveys

The way Kickstarter works is that we have to send out surveys asking for your shipping information, etc, so that we can actually send you the rewards.  Those surveys went out a few months back, but less than half of our supporters have replied -- so please, if you haven't filled yours out yet, do so today so we can get you your rewards.

    Big News Soon!

We'll be able to make a big announcement about the movie soon ;-)

Thanks to all your support, the word of mouth you've given us, and the funding you provided for our DocuWeeks trip, Steve's dream will continue in a big way...stay tuned!

In the mean time, if you haven't already, be sure to sign up for the Dying to do Letterman newsletter as we'll be updating that more frequently than this Kickstarter page.

    All the best,

    Biagio

    Longshots

    Hey everyone! Steve here.

Most of you know me pretty well from joining this campaign, seeing the movie, or following the "Dying to do Letterman" project for the past 6 years. But one thing you might not know about me is that I try to go to the Kentucky Derby every year. I have some fantastic friends in Louisville, and if I can make it, I go.

When I'm at the race I always bet a longshot. Why? Because there's nothing more fun than rooting for the guy everyone thinks doesn't have a chance. What's more American than a longshot? Heck, my dream to perform on Letterman was a longshot. I've got a weak spot for anyone who has been counted out.

That being said, one of our longshots for "Dying to do Letterman" didn't come in.

    The Oscars®

While we did qualify for Academy Award® consideration this year, the shortlist for the Best Documentary category for the upcoming Oscars® came out last week and we didn't make the cut. There were some great docs that we got to see at festivals that made it. But there were many more that we thought would end up on that list that didn't end up there either.

The truth is that our making that list (and then the final 5 that get nominated) was always a longshot. By definition a longshot is something that should never be counted on or taken too seriously. The type of film we have, the subject matter, the tone, and basically everything about it made us a longshot in the Best Documentary category and we knew that.

But when we started showing our film to audiences 9 months ago, so many amazing things started happening. We started getting standing ovations. People stayed through 45 minute Q&A's and then e-mailed us when they got home. And we started winning awards!

We won audience awards AND the jury awards. At one point we had won more awards than festivals we had attended (having won multiple awards at some feasts.) Joke, Biagio, Denise & I realized we had created something pretty special. Something that was taking on a life of its own.

All that was confirmed further when we were invited to take part in the prestigious DocuWeeks -- a program we thought we had no chance of being invited to because we weren't the "typical documentary."

    DocuWeeks

DocuWeeks -- run by the International Documentary Association -- invites a small number of films to qualify for Academy Award® consideration each year.  Past DocuWeeks films had included Taxi to the Dark Side, Jesus Camp, Born into Brothels, Spellbound, and Wasteland -- and now, on that same list, Dying to do Letterman. We were speechless.

To cover the cost of participating in DocuWeeks (they cover many of the expenses but not all) we started our Kickstarter campaign, and it became one of the most successful ever, thanks to our fans…thanks to YOU.

Taking part in Docuweeks qualified us for Oscar® consideration, and because of all the incredible reactions and feedback we all started to think this longshot just might come in.

It didn't happen. While we are of course disappointed, I have to say, thanks to all of YOU we were in that race.

YOU put us in the game.

And I would bet on this longshot again if I had the chance. In fact, this leg of the race may be over, but this film's journey is just beginning.

I promise you we will be worth betting on...because we have amazing fans and friends like you who keep us in any race we enter.

So congrats to those who made the list and very best of luck from all of us here at team Dying to do Letterman. The D2DL team is charging ahead, chasing our huge dream to share our film with a billion people. Thanks for spreading the word and see you at the finish line.

    Steve

PS We are currently finishing up all the DVD extras and prepping all the Kickstarter Rewards.  We should be able to announce soon when you'll be getting your swag! Thanks for being part of our family.

It's been an amazing ride, and with just 23 hours left in our kickstarter campaign we're hoping to finish very strong!

Our campaign ends Sunday, September 3, at 2:13PST, 5:13EST (which is about 23 hours from the time we're writing this.

As you can see from these photos -- your support is making our dreams come true!

If you've pledged and you'd like to see us in even more theaters (and get even bigger rewards) just go to the front page of our Kickstarter campaign, click on the "Manage My Pledge" button, and on the next screen you can pledge more and choose a bigger reward. Easy!

And there's some good rewards, too! Steve has a book coming out, and you can be one of the first to get an autographed copy.  And of course, if you pledge $50 or more, you get a copy of the movie, so it's a win win situation for all of us.

Hurricanes, Earthqukes, and Just 5 Days to Go!

***The Campaign Continues. Click Here to Join the Thrill Ride! ***

New York DocuWeeks has been CRAZY thanks to hurricaine Irene, but we're all hanging strong.  As we hoped, our screenings have added a new boost to our kickstarter campaign and today alone we've raised over $5100!

At this rate, we have a serious chance of getting up near our $100,000 goal!  The closer we come, the more theaters we can bring Dying to do Letterman to...along with Steve!

Here's a quick video update from Biagio:

Remember, we have some great new rewards! Steve has a book coming out, and you can be one of the first to get an autographed copy.  And of course, if you pledge $50 or more, you get a copy of the movie, so it's a win win situation for all of us.

If you'd like to up your pledge to get a copy of the movie or an autographed book, just go to the front page of our Kickstarter campaign, click on the "Manage My Pledge" button, and on the next screen you can choose which reward you'd like. Easy!

As always, thanks for being a part of our dream.  Please share this link with all your friends.  We only have 5 days to go -- but remember, we raised $40,000 in our first week, so we really CAN get up near $100,000. We just need your help.

    Thanks and much love,

Joke and Biagio, Steve and Denise
