Posted project update #12Press Release: Hometown Filmmaker Partners With Family & Children's Place...
Post CommentDear supporters and friends.
Edgar and I wanted to share this exciting news with you. Below is the press release from yesterday on a new partnership to bring further awareness to the issues addressed in the film.
HOMETOWN FILMMAKER PARTNERS WITH FAMILY & CHILDREN’S PLACE FOR THEATRICAL RELEASE OF AN INSPIRING FEATURE FILM DURING APRIL’S CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH
LOUISVILLE, KY (March, 19, 2012) Fellow Louisvillian and producer John Paul Rice, (Trinity High School 93-95) and Family and Children’s Place have partnered to bring the inspiring and critically acclaimed independent feature film, MOTHER’S RED DRESS, to Louisville for a theatrical run this April during Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Following the success of the film’s Kentucky premiere during February’s Derby City Film Festival, MOTHER’S RED DRESS will return to Louisville for a theatrical run at the Village 8 Cinemas, April 20th and run through the 26th.
Open to the public with five (5) daily show times (1:15, 3:15, 5:10, 7:15, 9:30). Tickets are five dollars ($5) at the box office and online. Three dollars ($3) for all matinee shows and seniors. A one-dollar discount ($1) is applied to each ticket for students, LCSW, medical professionals and members of youth/family organizations who show a current student/organization/staff ID. Advance ticket purchases available at the box office or www.village8.com under ‘Louisville Exclusive Films’.
Adapted from real-life stories, MOTHER’S RED DRESS, is a thought-provoking love story about a young man, Paul, suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) who's trying to piece together the past after seeing his mother kill her abusive boyfriend. He leaves home for a small town in Southern California where he meets a young woman, Ashley, who inspires him to rebuild his life. Paul is hopeful for his future with Ashley until he receives an urgent call from his mother. She is dying of cancer and wants to reunite her son with his father who abandoned them years ago. Paul returns home, ready to help his mother and forgive his father, but finds a terrible truth waiting for him.
Josh Shoulta, Public Relations Manager of Family & Children’s Place, expressed the importance of bringing attention to issues surrounding abuse and domestic violence. “For too long issues like child abuse have been absent from public discussion. Whether around a dinner table, in a classroom or in an artistic setting like a feature film, we need to address these problems,” Shoulta said. “We commend Mother’s Red Dress for shedding light on abuse, particularly during Child Abuse Prevention Month.”
Each year, Family & Children’s Place serves over 6,500 Kentuckiana children and families impacted by violence, abuse and neglect. Services include the prevention and intervention of abuse as well a range of counseling services.
“We are excited about working with Family and Children’s Place to promote this film. I could not be more proud of the amazing people I have met in my hometown and state who work tirelessly each and every day to make the world a better place.”
“This movie is about the incredible strength and resilience that victims of violence and abuse have.” says Rice. “No matter what walk of life we are from, there is always hope once we let ourselves face the truth of our childhood.”
Based on critic reviews and audience reactions, Rice says many feel the movie stays with them long after they leave the theater. “Our hope is that people who attend will become more involved in their local community to solve the problems addressed in the movie.”
MOTHER’S RED DRESS runs April 20th – 26th at The Village 8 Theaters with 5 daily show times. (1:15, 3:15, 5:10, 7:15, 9:30)
Producer John Paul Rice will be in attendance for Friday, Saturday and Sunday with an audience Q&A following each show time.
