commented on a projecthi kate and sam, my view is this, as an american mutt who loves many cities and states in this country, and now lives and works and loves in detroit: detroit needs to invite the world back into it, and it needs new ambitious creative projects that maybe, just maybe, can launch entirely new industries and ideas now that the world has changed from what it once was. that's what i'm trying to do in my own little way, and it's one small thing among many people doing many things. it's very hard work full of tons of uncertainty and sacrifice and yes, fear (will it work? can i even pay rent this month? will people like you be yelling at me all the time? i don't believe you recognize how difficult this is...). and i'm just one person working with a small team of volunteers trying to get something cool off the ground. i don't have answers but i have some ideas, and so far those ideas have found a lot of love both inside and outside the city. you seem to think it's "terrible/crass/despicable/gross" that there's any money coming into the project. well, i'll tell you what, when you consider that that's all the money there is, i hope you appreciate how modest it is. there is no corporation or major investor backing this project, there was very nearly zero in the bank account when we started (hello unemployment checks!) and there is no other job. this is the job! and that's not stopping us from beginning to share with other projects in the city starting in the spring. you say that that plan is somehow off the table but that's simply not true. if you've actually been following along, i apologize if my stream-of-consciousness style has misled you on that (i post about lots of things and ideas -- i have an active mind). i wish i could snap my fingers and make you and everyone happy all at once, but sadly that doesn't seem to be part of the physics of this world. the only way i know how to do it is inch by inch. i go above and beyond to make myself personally available. my phone number is 908-343-1981, my email is jerryp[at]gmail[dot]com, you can come visit the studio at the russell, and I'll be at the lager house tonight around 12:30 for pj's birthday and the reelers show if you want me to buy you a drink (using the vast inch fortunes!) and talk about things. i'd love to hear your ideas, but I'm not really that interested in attacks or people proposing that they know what's in my mind. come on! be more supportive to new projects in detroit than this! and if you don't like this one, go do something yourself. you can be guaranteed that if you do i won't be in your comment threads dropping turds on it. :) i hope we get a chance to speak directly and that you become a fan of the project in the future. thanks and much love, Jerry

Greetings inchvestors! Hello from the interzone between LOVELAND seasons 1 and 2, and also from New Jersey, an interzone of its own, where I'm sitting on the couch of my parents' house after visiting for my mom's birthday.

Did you know Detroit has an unspoken past? A tiny, tiny, haunted, tiny past of haunted micro real estate? Well it does. The ghost inches are baaa-aaack, and they want to be caught so a new bridge can be built! : )
You want the truthiness? Well, can you *handle* the truthiness?? The video also introduces a new character in a parallel LOVELAND storyverse, the Detroit Ice Potato: http://detroiticepotato.com .
In addition to the birthday, I'm on the road for meetings and working with friends in different cities. On the business side, I'm wrestling with whether or not to make LOVELAND an L3C, which is an experimental corporate structure that's part for-profit and part non-profit: http://7billionfriends.tumblr.com/post/419461554/to-l3c-or-not-to-l3c-that-is-confusing . So far LOVELAND has been entirely funded by inchvestor love and dollars. We are starting to talk to larger investors and looking at grants so we can stop scraping by from month to month, start hiring people, and move more chess pieces around the board at a faster rate.
Personally, I continue having the time of my life working on this for you. I'm excited, scared, inspired, and exhausted by turn, which is at should be. All this is...new, and we're doing it David style, not Goliath style, with naught but a slingshot full of inches. I enjoy picturing the not-too-distant future where the system is really up and running and we look back at this stage fondly. The quaint times! All of your support and inchvestment is more valuable than you can know. <3

Aaand I'm working my butt off to prepare for season 2 which will start in the spring. On the business side, I'm wrestling with whether or not to make LOVELAND an L3C, which is an experimental corporate structure that's part for-profit and part non-profit: http://7billionfriends.tumblr.com/post/419461554/to-l3c-or-not-to-l3c-that-is-confusing . So far LOVELAND has been entirely funded by inchvestor love and dollars. We are starting to talk to larger investors and looking at grants so we can stop scraping by from month to month, start hiring people, and move more chess pieces around the board at a faster rate.
Personally, I continue having the time of my life working on this for you. I'm excited, scared, inspired, and exhausted by turn, which is at should be. All this is...new, and we're doing it David style, not Goliath style, with naught but a slingshot full of inches. I enjoy picturing the not-too-distant future where the system is really up and running and we look back at this stage fondly. The quaint times! All of your support and inchvestment is more valuable than you can know. <3

Greetings inchvestors! Hello from the interzone between LOVELAND seasons 1 and 2, and also from New Jersey, an interzone of its own, where I'm sitting on the couch of my parents' house after visiting for my mom's birthday.

Did you know Detroit has an unspoken past? A tiny, tiny, haunted, tiny past of haunted micro real estate? Well it does. The ghost inches are baaa-aaack, and they want to be caught so a new bridge can be built! : )

People of the realm, let me keep this snappy:
First, Welcome aboard! If you got 12 inches or more make sure to message me through Kickstarter or jerryp[at]gmail[dot]com with your mailing address so I can mail your deed packages etc.
As of this moment there are only 390 inches remaining in Plymouth, the first 10,000 square inch property. This is the final Kickstarter round and the link again is: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jerry/loveland-round-11 .
Now, what to expect. When we hit 10K, that will conclude LOVELAND season 1: the earliest stage of figuring this all out, exploring directions, welcoming LOVELAND's earliest pioneers (that would be you! :)) and testing the inchvestment model.
Season 2 will begin in the spring and I couldn't be more excited about it. What's new? Well, your inches will be physically installed and visitable. Hoorah! There will be a fresh new website with new map features to see and interact with your space online, a new side story-line, AND! We'll be coming out with 5 LOVELAND grants to support projects in Detroit, so season 2 will be about sharing new inchvestment money with people doing cool and important things in the city.
