    Happy New Year

    Happy New Year Metanoia Friends!

We cannot thank you for your tremendous support of Jeff Lowe's Metanoia over the last year. We are filled with gratitude and appreciation for the many people who have contributed to our project so generously with their precious time, amazing skills and hard earned money.  It really has become a village.

When we present the trailer and other Metanoia footage to people in various venues, we get fantastic feedback. We are clearly on the right track and yet we continue to fine tune our vision with powerful input coming from unexpected sources.

The new year promises to be filled with exciting opportunities and brilliant possibilities.  We are downright thrilled about some new developments but we cannot speak of them until the official public announcements have been made. One is coming up next week, so stay tuned.

We send our very best wishes and love to each and every one of you for a fabulous New Year in 2012.

We are looking forward to our editing process which begins full time in mid February. We will complete the final film shoots in the spring and achieve the fulfillment of a dream with the completion of the film later in the year.

We will continue with our fundraising efforts on all fronts, starting the new year with a Breakfast with Jeff Lowe and silent auction on Sunday February 12 as part of the Vancouver International Film Festival.  Please come and ask the Ice Man that burning question you’ve always had and bid on great gear provided by our wonderful sponsors.

We will be at the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market Show January 19-22.  More news on our presentation and displays there in our next update.

We invite you to email or call us at 208.630.4477 if we can answer any questions for you or you have anything you would like to share with us.

Again, our heartfelt thanks for your interest and support of this very special project.

    Warmest Regards,

Connie, Jeff and the Metanoia Team

    News, News and More News

    Dear Metanoia Friends,

We can’t believe it has been so long since our last update! We apologize for our unintended silence. Thank you for your patience.  By now you should have received the first of the schwag from the kickstarter campaign. Herewith we fill you in on what’s happening with the film and other events from the summer and fall.

Our June Fundraiser with the Grassroots Outdoor Alliance – A Special Evening with Jeff Lowe and Malcolm Daly - was very successful. The ticket sales and silent auction raised just over $10,000.00.  The Grassroots Alliance Early Outdoor Show attendees were a terrific audience and many went home with artwork, gear, signed books and magazines and more. One lucky fellow took home the Honda scooter we sold raffle tickets for! Most of Jeff’s family also came to the event, along with many friends and locals from Ogden and the greater Salt Lake area.  Everyone seemed to have a great time! A special thank you to many of you who were also there, once again supporting Jeff and our project.

July was spent preparing for the launch of our new website and Outdoor Retailer Summer Market Show August 4-7. We spent 4 months building the website with our awesome webmaster, Matthew Wright.  One of our kickstarter backers, John Yaworsky brought Nimble Digital Media on board as a sponsor of the film. NDM donated our beautiful website that you can see here at www.JeffLowelimber.com  There will be more photos and descriptions as time goes by.

August 4-7 at Outdoor Retailer, we were hosted at the Liberty Mountain Booth. There we got to show off the contents of Jeff’s backpack that Josh Wharton recovered from the Eiger in March of this year. The pack had been frozen high up on the North Face since 1991.  People were fascinated by the clothing, sleeping bag, compass, oxidized aluminum pots and much more. You can see the whole story on our website here.

Jeff Lowe's Metanoia was also featured in the August OR show issue of Outdoor USA Magazine. It brought many people to the Liberty booth to see our display. Several people told us it was the best display they had seen at OR in years! This winter we will once again have the pack contents on display at the OR Show. While we will have our own booth at OR this winter – we have not yet determined where we will have the pack contents on display.  Stay tuned.

August was busy with post show follow up. We met with over 20 companies and most of them want to support Jeff Lowe’s Metanoia in some way. Follow up is key, as each company has to prepare their 2012 budget and determine how we will figure into it. You can see many of the new sponsors on our sponsor page by clicking here – including The North Face, Grivel, Mountain Chalet, and more to come soon. You can see our current sponsors by clicking here

One of our devoted supporters offered to throw Jeff a Birthday Party! Snowbasin ski resort became a sponsor of the film and donated the Needles Lodge for the unforgettable gathering of the tribe on September 17. Friends and family from all over the country came to celebrate with Jeff. It was quite a reunion and a real love fest!  We are so grateful for all the wonderful people in our lives who show up in so many amazing ways.  Pictures will be on the website soon!

After the party we spent a week flying with Tom Cochrane and his girlfriend Chelsea.  Despite turbulence and unpredictable weather, we got some beautiful footage of the Grand Teton, the Wind River Range, the Sawtooths, the City of Rocks, Capital Reef, Zion, Wheeler Peak and the Wasatch Mountains.  It is for a montage that Jeff wants to create of the great ranges of the west where he has done so much climbing. It will give viewers of the film a glimpse of the unique characteristics of each area in a fly by, then zoom in on a favorite route of Jeff’s on a particular face or peak.  It will be very unique and beautiful. We hope to get a bit of that up on the website soon also.

In October we went to Colorado to spend time with Jeff’s granddaughter, 20 month old Valentina.  Jeff’s daughter, Sonja, is finishing up her MBA at Denver University and needed a little help with babysitting.  Valentina is a joy and whirlwind all at once. Jeff says “she is the smartest, most beautiful little girl in the world”.  Not that he is prejudiced or anything.

For the 6 weeks in Colorado, we stayed with Jeff’s brother Greg and his wife Jean Lowe and continued to work on the film. They generously welcomed us into their home, which had the added benefit of Jeff and Greg getting to work on the film together, as Greg is the director of the film.  Mike Lowe, another brother, came for a visit at one point, which was cause for much reminiscing of old times and climbs.  Jeff enjoyed it immensely.

While in Colorado, Steve Grossman (climbing historian) interviewed Jeff for many hours. We also do other interviews almost weekly for various media, blogs, newspapers and magazines. We appreciate the attention this brings to our project as we continue to raise funds for the final push and full time editing that will begin soon.

We continue to collect archival footage of Jeff from around the country. On our way back to Ogden for Thanksgiving, we stopped for a night in Gypsum, Colorado to visit Roger Brown. Roger directed the Ama Dablam film which featured Jeff, Doug Robinson and many others. It was done for ABC in 1979. We got a copy of it while we were there to add to what needs to go in the film.

Jeff is also working on the script, reworking some bits and pieces as we see the footage we actually have. The story continues to morph a bit as the reality of the shots we get and the usable archival footage inform the story we can tell.

We brought Valentina with us back to Ogden for Thanksgiving where Sonja also joined us for the holiday.  All of Jeff’s sister’s and their families were in town as well, so it was a very special gathering of the Lowe clan. People are the real treasures in our lives so we try to make time for visiting whenever possible.

December 8 we are off to the Bozeman Ice Festival. Jeff will present a film of his first ascent with Mike Weis of Bridal Veil Falls in 1974. It was a historic climb for many reasons and so figures prominently in the 40 year Retrospective on Ice Climbing that will be featured at the Ice Festival. We will also be doing a fundraiser for the film. It will be a breakfast event with a rare showing of a slideshow of Jeff’s 1991 solo first ascent of Metanoia, on the North Face of the Eiger along with some other new footage for the film. Sunday December 11, 10am, Breakfast with Jeff Lowe – the place you’ll want to be! You can click here for details or see our website

We plan to take a much needed rest at the end of December.  It has been a very full year and it has taken quite a toll on Jeff’s health.  His spirits and creativity never wane, but his energy cannot always keep up with the many demands of this project.

January will find us preparing once again for Outdoor Retailer and attending from … January 19-22 and the beat goes on.  Still fundraising after all these years.

February 10 will we will be one of the opening night features for the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival.  We’ll make a stop in Calgary for a show on the way. We are honored to share some footage of the film as well as the rare slideshow of the 1991 first ascent of Metanoia.

The spring will be busy with final shoots for the film, sorting through archival footage, editing new footage, preparing sound, music and much more.  We have learned that a feature length film takes far more time and money to produce than we ever imagined. That said, our goal remains firm to complete the film by September of 2012 and enter the Sundance Film Festival.

On top of all this Connie sold her house in Idaho and moved down to Ogden to be with Jeff full time.  The search is on for a new home for the two of us to share…

We deeply appreciate all your love and support. We truly could not do this film without each and every one of you.

    With Gratitude,                                                                                              Connie and Jeff

p.s.  If by chance you did not receive your autographed postcard or Clean Walls/Waterfall Ice dvd’s, please let us know right away.  There have been a few glitches we've learned about and we want to remedy any mishaps immediately.  The posters will be ready in the spring – when we know more details on the film.

The photo below shows Jeff amidst the amazing ice features of Bridal Veil Falls during the 1974 first ascent with Mike Weis, Telluride, Colorado.

We are Home with New Heli Footage of the Eiger!

    Dear Metanoia Friends,

It's been a hectic couple of weeks! We completed our filming trip to Switzerland with some fabulous footage from the helicopter of Josh Wharton and Daniel Mader climbing on the Eiger, you can see by clicking here:

    http://vimeo.com/22348440

Share the link with your friends! It's very cool!

We had a great trip thanks to Josh Wharton. Chris Alstrin, Greg and Jean Lowe, David Black, Daniel Mader, Lorenze Frutiger and many more. We got wonderful photos and video that we will continue to share with you along the way. The film is going to be FANTASTIC!

The next update will reveal the contents from Jeff Lowe's Backpack. It took many days to thaw after it came down from the Eiger and many more days for the sleeping bag to thaw. We'll have some video and photos to share next week.

You will receive a Kickstarter Survey very soon asking for your mailing address and other contact information so that we can begin the process of fulfilling the kickstarter rewards. Please fill it out and return it as soon as possible.

It will take a few months to get everything ready for delivery. We have gathered the Sports Illustrated Magazines and have the Ice Techniques and Clean Walls DVD's ready to go.

The photos to be signed will take some time and of course, the DVD and digital download of Jeff Lowe's Metanoia, the film itself, will not be available until after the film is released, probably later this year or January 2012.

We are creating an email list for future updates and information mailings about the project, Jeff Lowe's Metanoia, outside of kickstarter. We will automatically include you  in this list, so please add your email address to the kickstarter survey. You can also send email addresses for other interested parties to info@jefflowemovie.com.

We continue to seek funding and sponsorship of the film. We have a long way to go now as production costs begin, so please spread the word and direct people to www.jefflowemovie.com or 208.630.4477 for more info.

Thank you again for your generous support and continued interest in our project

    With Gratitude,

Connie, Jeff and the Metanoia Crew

P.S. from Connie... I had the best birthday ever in Switzerland... Jeff sent me paragliding! See the Eiger in the video and pic below.
