Posted project update #30Box Complete
Post CommentThe box has been sent out to be printed and cut out!
All of the dev kits are ready, so as soon as the boxes come in, I will be packing and shipping the dev kits to dev kit backers. I plan on giving the dev kit backers 1 to 2 weeks to test out the cartridge, play with the code, and add functionality, while I contact PCB assemblers to get the best quote possible for getting the first batch of 200 Chip Maestros into your hands! Once all my dev kit backers agree that the Chip Maestro is the best possible product I can put into your hands, I will send out the PCB for manufacture. Exciting times!
Stay tuned!

Posted project update #28Boxes and Manuals being finalized!
Post CommentHi backers!
I wanted to make this update yesterday, but it being April Fool's Day, I decided to wait a little longer...
The box is very close to completion, and I am filling in the instruction manual after having an amazing template made for me by Carrie Conger! All the boxes and manuals will be printed by Uncle Tusk (http://uncletusk.com/) as soon as they're ready. Thanks to all the backers for their patience while I work hard to make sure you enjoy your Chip Maestro even before opening the box :)
Thanks!

Thanks for your support and patience Will :) Martin, exactly, the Dev Kits are each hand assembled to ensure that they get to Dev Kit backers as reliably and quickly as possible. When the Dev Kits are proven to work, I will have a factory create the rest of the 250 Chip Maestros currently on order, and ship them out immediately. There will be a much shorter wait between the beginning of the Kickstarter to the shipping of the Dev Kits than between now to the shipping of the first batch of Chip Maestros :)

Posted project update #27Early Opt-In Dev Kits Shipped, first draft of Instruction Manual ready!
Hi backers!
All the dev kit backers that opted to receive the dev kit early (with box and manual to be shipped later) currently have their kits or are waiting on the shipment to reach them!
I have begun talking with PCB and assembly plants and am receiving quotes for the first batch of Chip Maestros. After my dev kit backers report back to me with their findings, I'll start production on the first batch and begin shipping them soon after they come in.
Also, I'm working with the talented Carrie Conger to produce the instruction manual! She has sent me the first draft, and we are currently revising it prior to having it and the box printed out by UncleTusk (http://uncletusk.com/)
Stay tuned!

@Martin I respect that you really want to receive the cart. We all do! But keep in mind, we are not buying an "off the shelf" product from a factory. This is custom one of a kind work here. Also, the amount of updates we are receiving about the progress is great. This is especially true if you've ever tried to order a midi capable NES product from somewhere else... Have some patience, it is better to get your cart once all the feedback from dev kit backers has been processed. This will help rule out any potential problems that would arise if it weren't properly tested.

Posted project update #26Dev Kits are being shipped out!
The day has finally come! The first dev kit is on it's way out the door, to the backer with the initials J.D.!
J.D. was the first to message me after the update, and will be the first dev kit I ship out!
I will start shipping the rest as soon as I determine the most efficient way of shipping out the rest of the dev kits all at once. Stay tuned!

First off, thank you for voicing your concerns in a very mature manner. The reason I cannot provide a timeline is because I would rather provide updates of my progress, without disappointing anyone if I fail to meet a specific deadline. Going from prototype to production is an unpredictable journey that takes a some time, and I thank you all for your patience thus far, and would like to ask that you maintain the trust that I have built up so far. I am sending out the first batch of dev kits right now, and will send the second batch as soon as I assemble to programmers for them. Once the dev kit backers start working on their Chip Maestros, the development forums will open up to be viewable by the public, so that everyone see our progress. If everything goes perfectly, then I can order the production of the remaining Chip Maestros immediately. If there are some bugs that I have missed (unlikely), it might take some time to iron out. This is currently my largest concern. I understand the need for some date to look forward to as well. Therefore, I will announce the firm deadline that Chip Maestros will be ready to ship as soon as I am comfortable with the dev kit backers' experience with the Chip Maestro.
