Hello L5 Donors!Today is the big day, L5's pilot episode is NOW available for download and streaming on http://www.vodo.net/L5 ! Watch what started as a concept a year ago come to life in this brand new science fiction story.
Thank you sincerely to everyone who made this work possible. The file we had to submit early to VODO for seeding had a few blips in the credits-- if we have missed your name, we are including it on our website, http://www.L5-series.com , and rest assured, the final credits will be touched up and all names included on the DVD copies and in 60 days when it goes live for free on Youtube and Vimeo. We apologize and want to make sure our awesome fans and contributors get the recognition they deserve.
Thanks again, be sure to check out http://www.vodo.net/L5 !

Posted project update #25L5 Release Trailer!
Post CommentHello intrepid L5 donors!
We are nearing the finish line. As bats fly out of our beards, voicemails from collections pile up, and ribs begin to show, we are nearing the end of our year long marathon to create the pilot episode of L5. It has been an incredible journey, made possible by you.
Once we finish, we can begin the next big project (other than getting our lives in order) - assembling the staggering list of DVDs, posters, badges, signed scripts and more that you have all patiently been waiting for.
For right now, please enjoy our official release trailer!!!

Posted project update #23L5 Launches IndieGoGo Campaign!
Post Commenthttp://www.indiegogo.com/A-Score-for-L5
This is it, our final round of fundraising. We've been working for over a year on this project, it's been an absolutely incredible, frustrating, rewarding, mind numbing, exhilarating experience. We have learned so much, we have gained so much ground.
Our little team has been pushing 80 hour weeks for several months, working into the wee hours of the night every weekday, troubleshooting, rendering, modelling, animating and more troubleshooting. But we are so nearly there, we can feel the warm glow of the finish line, it beacons us to keep at it, every day, despite much hardship and a pummeling from the global economic recession.
We will finish this pilot episode, and you will know you've been a part of it.
Help us in any way you can, we need it all: donations, blog posts, emails to friends and family, tweets, likes, reddit, digg, word of mouth. We have already raised $1,135 of our $1200 goal. But know this: Every extra dollar we raise beyond our goal doesn't go to waste, and doesn't go into our pockets. We will use extra funds to hire violinists, cellists and choir singers to get the best recorded samples for our original score. And we have only 7 days left.
Our last fundraiser, through IndieGoGo:

Posted project update #22L5 Update!!! (Coming up for air)
Update on progress: We've partnered up with IADT, their wonderful staff is helping us with our rendering needs, Stas Poritskiy from IADT is optimizing all of our render files for the Argo and Colony shots. We are working out a pipeline and compositing template for the interior colony shots. Sorry for the lack of updates everyone, L5 is moving ahead every day in leaps and bounds. We are doing stuff that has never been done before on this kind of budget, it's definitely a huge challenge but we are up for it. I wish I could post updates, but they would look like this: "Today we converted all .jpg texture maps to .map files to optimize mental ray's RAM usage! And tomorrow, we're going to try to re-render a bunch of stuff with better raytracing!" More REAL updates to come soon. Thank you everyone for your encouragement and support! We are working on this literally around the clock, often at the expense of eating and paying rent! WOOO FILM MAKING!!!-

I would love to hear about the jpg -> map files and those sorts of decisions. Why map files? What are the tradeoffs? Will the quality be lower? Does it make trilinear LOD blending easier? Does RAM usage have that much impact on render times? How much better did the most recent renders come out?
A million questions, although I am sure that explaining all this would take away a lot of time for actual work, so, yeah, not a great tradeoff. =)

voidref: i guess "making of" stuff will be done retroactively as now tons of energy is consumed by production itself.
l5: cool, we can't wait to see it completed. keep going guys, you gonna make a difference!

Posted project update #21L5 Team is in full blown 3D post production!
Sorry everyone for the lack of updates, just a heads up on what we have been doing:
Building 3D models for the Argo, the Beagle, the L5 Colony exterior...
Digital sets and interiors...
Matte paintings...
Refining the cut...
Basically we're working 'round the clock to get this looking good and out the door for everyone to see! We appreciate your patience, it's an all volunteer team working long hours to bring this together, right now it looks like we'll be able to get done by late April, barring any hiccups!
Wish us luck!
