A Final Kickstarter Update from Good Eye Video

Hello to all you Good Eye Video friends and supporters!

It''s been almost a year since we traveled to East Africa to work with an amazing array of organizations doing everything from building schools to funding energy entrepreneurs. We are proud to report that we've finally completed all of these projects and have this compilation to share in case you haven't seen them:

    http://vimeo.com/channels/206215

Of course this group of videos was made possible by your generous support, without which we couldn't have helped tell the stories of these remarkable people making change in Kenya and Tanzania. On a personal note, experiences like the one we had last year in Africa have trickled down into our hearts and remain a permanent part of how we see the world.

This past year also brought the loss of our dear friend Jim Nowak, whose organization Building Futures brought us to Kenya for the first time. Jim was the inspiration for Good Eye Video and remains a huge part of our motivation to shine light on folks who are changing the world. The opportunity to spend a few final muddy walks with him into the hills where he built his school was beyond priceless.

But if there is one thing Jim taught us, it is that there's work to be done. We're departing in 3 days for Haiti, to work with two amazing organizations for the rest of June. If you're interested in our travels, please join us for the adventure. Internet connection willing, we'll be reporting from the field at our blog, http://goodeyevideo.blogspot.com/

Happy summer to you all! We hope fresh air finds you.. and just maybe a few adventures of your own.

    All the best,

    Dan and Erin

    Flip that switch!

    Dear Supporters,

As the weather turns the corner from crisp to downright cold, it's getting harder and harder to keep that east African sun in our bones. Luckily we just finished another one of our videos from Kenya and we are excited to share it. Energy in Common is a terrific organization and this video will hopefully be a great way to tell their story... in 30 seconds or less.

    Stay Warm,
    Dan, Erin & Katie

ps. If you're still waiting for your incentive fear not! We are still working on them... maybe just on African time.

    Photos, photos, photos!

    Dear Backers,

As these dog days of summer pass we are spending our time watching tea being harvested and schools being built. It’s a nice way for us to keep the warmth of the friends we met and the magic of the places we traveled close by (even if they are now confined to a computer screen). In that vein we want to send you a collection of photos, so you can begin to visualize the breadth of the work you’ve supported through your donation.

After several weeks of organizing, sifting through and narrowing down about 5,000 photos, we would like to present our page of photos from our trip: http://goodeyevideo.blogspot.com/p/kenya-photos.html

Take minute to browse. For us these photos of the children, teachers, workers and mothers are brimming with joy, resilience and enthusiasm for life. Many of these folks have never had their picture taken before and may never have their picture taken again. It’s your support that has helped bring their smiles and work and landscapes to people thousands of miles away.

    Stay tuned for more news!

    First Kenya Video!

    Dear Friends,

We hope this finds you in the midst of a summer filled with good work, fresh fruit and some room to enjoy it all (not to mention escape from the heat)! Although we've shared details of our Kenyan adventure with some of you, this e-mail begins the more formal process of telling the story of the wonderful organizations and people you've supported through your Kickstarter donation. We returned from Africa with over 4,000 pictures and 40 hours of video... so needless to say, we have our work cut out for us!

I am proud to start things off with our first completed video for Building Futures. This piece was inspired by an experience I had on my first trip to Western Kenya in 2007:

We were walking in the growing heat of the morning along a winding dirt path, which snakes its way up to the hillside school yard of Mbaka Oromo Primary. Ahead of us, two girls walked. Bare feet. Torn sweaters. No books. Giant smiles. As they continued their dawdling dance towards school I realized that this is the side of Africa we never get to see. This is the image that should move us all to contribute to a better life for Kenyan kids.

It is the deep beauty and privilege of childhood to be able to smile in a difficult place. And in many ways Western Kenya is a difficult place.... one of limited opportunity, poor health care, fragile ethnic tensions and even food insecurity. But as these kids made their way to school, I believe they were thinking about what all kids think about on their way to school.... pushing each other in the mud.

We hope this video will share with you the tremendous enthusiasm these children have for learning and the boundless love they show for their world, however torn.

    When I Walk: http://www.vimeo.com/14126162

Please stay tuned as we complete the rest of our projects and as we prepare all of your INCENTIVES!

    Tutaonana (see you later!),
