Posted project update #14Chernobyl App Wins NPPA BOP Award
Dear Supporters,
Yesterday, the National Press Photographers Association announced it's winners for the Best of Photojournalism, Web Division. My iPad App, The Long Shadow of Chernobyl was awarded 1st Place in the Tablet/Mobile Delivery category! I want to reach out and say "THANK YOU" again to all of my backers, and everyone who supported my project by spreading the word. Each backer was listed inside the App.
If you are on the East Coast, I hope you get a chance to stop by for a special projection of my Chernobyl work at the LOOK3 Festival of the Photograph next month.
Cheers,
Gerd Ludwig

Posted project update #13LOOK3 Presentation in Charlottesville, VA June 9th
Post CommentDear Backers and Supporters,
I'm excited to announce that a special presentation of my project, The Long Shadow of Chernobyl, will be shown among the SHOTS & WORKS projections during this year's LOOK3 Festival in Charlottesville, VA.
My presentation will take place on Saturday, June 9th as part of the WORKS projection starting at 9pm.
For more information: http://look3.org/exhibits/shots-works/
The LOOK3 Festival of the Photograph is a celebration of photography, created by photographers, for those who share a passion for the still image. The Festival features exhibits and on-stage appearances of three “INsight” photographers, as well as exhibitions, outdoor projections, workshops and interviews over three days and nights.
Billed as “3 days of peace, love and photography,” the Festival is designed to bring together the international photography community and create opportunities for attendees and artists to share images, ideas, and to be inspired.
This year's INsight photographers are Alex Webb, Stanley Greene, and Donna Ferrato!
This is truly a special event, and I hope if you are nearby, you have a chance to attend.
Best,
Gerd

Posted project update #11The Long Shadow of Chernobyl iPad App Now Available!
Post Comment
Dear Donors, Sponsors, and Friends,
A year ago this week I launched a Kickstarter campaign to continue my coverage of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Thanks to you, my return trip was a success. Today, I am proud to announce the release of my first iPad App, The Long Shadow of Chernobyl. The App is the most comprehensive collection of my work covering the human and environmental impact of the Chernobyl disaster. It includes over 150 photographs, exclusive videos, interactive panoramas, and more. Many of the images were taken in 2011 thanks to the support of the Kickstarter community. Your donations not only helped me return to the Exclusion Zone, but also allowed me to offer the App at an affordable price, only $6.99.
Included in the App is a special page dedicated to the Donors and Sponsors of the Kickstarter community:

The App is now available at the Apple App Store: http://itunes.apple.com/app/the-long-shadow-of-chernobyl/id484752718
To learn more about the app, please visit: http://www.longshadowofchernobyl.com/ipad
Thank you again for your valuable support. I hope to have more announcements in the coming year on my website: http://gerdludwig.com
Best, Gerd

Posted project update #10Exhibition at EBRD in London
Dear Donors, Sponsors, and Friends,
Last week an exhibition of my Chernobyl photographs went on display in London. Unfortunately, due to the timing, only a few of my newest images could be included. To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the accident, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) opened the exhibit of 30 large prints at their London headquarters. The EBRD is in charge of collecting the finances for the Chernobyl cleanup and the construction of the New Safe Confinement, totaling $2.2 billion. At present, the Chernobyl Shelter Fund shows a gap of more than $800 million, the reason why the EBRD was eager to exhibit my photographs and confront an audience of ambassadors and bankers to the reality on the ground. Among the attendees was the Ukrainian Ambassador, Volodymyr Khandogiy.
The BBC aired a video about the exhibit just this morning: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-13125498
Without your help, my return trip, and including new photographs in this exhibit would not have been possible. Your names were included in a list of Donors and Sponsors on a sign alongside the photographs.
As we continue the editing process, we will be updating the project website with new images and updates for upcoming exhibitions: http://www.longshadowofchernobyl.com
Best, Gerd

Gerd - The poster just arrived today. What struck me about it is it's presentation of the desolation, and destructive power of nuclear energy when something goes wrrong that was suppose to be preventable or not suppose to happen. The poster should be the "poster child" for all Nuclear Agencies, Regulartory Agencies when they say to the public and each other - we have safeguards in place. I am sure that is just what the japanese once said.
