Recently, one of our backers posted the following:

I have financially supported this film because I have always wanted to meet Bill Watterson, and just say, "Thank you so much for your art, and your passion"And that is the specific goal of the film!
I hope at the end of the day Mr. Watterson actually watches the movie, and by extension he has heard me say what I have longed to say.For the love of God,
Tim Mitchell"When I read that post, it touched on exactly why I initially wanted to make this film! I wanted to collect messages and thoughts from Watterson's fans and intersperse them with a deep exploration of his art.
The breadth of this film has grown since that initial eureka (truth-be-told) *shower* moment of wanting to express my own appreciation of Calvin & Hobbes.
As we have progressed with this project, we find that there is much more to explore. We want to ask questions like, "would Calvin & Hobbes have been so successful and beloved if it were introduced today?" and we want to explore Watterson's integrity regarding his refusal to merchandise and license away his characters and artwork.
And, of course, we still want to find out why so many people have connected in a unique and special way with Calvin & Hobbes.

commented on a projectHard to believe that it only took 3 weeks instead of 3 months to hit our $12,000 goal, but with so much time remaining, the sky is the limit. With 60 days left as of this post, we're hoping to keep up the pledging momentum, and we'll just pretend our goal is a gazillion dollars. If we kept up our present pace, we could get close to $40,000, and I guarantee that whatever we raise, we will put it on the screen. In October, we took our first major trip for Dear Mr. Watterson to go to Bill Watterson's hometown of Chagrin Falls. The catalyst that got us there the opportunity to meet up with the author of the recent book "Looking for Calvin & Hobbes", Nevin Martell. We sat in on some book-reading sessions at the Fireside Book Shop and the library, interviewed Nevin and a dozen or more locals and Calvin & Hobbes fans, and we filmed scenery around town. To help Nevin promote his book, we put together this brief trailer, and if you haven't heard about his book yet, you should definitely check it out.

Rich Wertz's pledge just put us over our $12,000 goal, exactly 15 minutes before we hit the 3 week point! We have always felt very confident that we would reach that goal, but we're thrilled that we've exceeded it in just 21 days.
Now, we've got 68 more days to keep raising funds, and it is anyone's guess on how far we can go. Every additional pledge helps us get closer to finishing the film. We now have an incredible amount of momentum, and we can't wait to put these funds to work.
