Posted project update #21Hello, it's me...
I figure I owe all my friends a "What's Up?" The past few months have been really topsy turvy. CPA-Holes (a.k.a. Tax Season) has been a very successful project for me on several levels. I think nearly everyone in the business who has seen it has been incredibly impressed. It opened a lot of doors for me. It also had the inadvertent effect of drawing attention to my last short, "Welcome to the Jungle Gym." Suddenly, I have two viable projects. But it has been an arduous path to get here.
Originally, I was planning to shop both with a good friend of mine who is an extremely-gifted TV director and Executive Producer on some pretty big shows. Unfortunately, he and I couldn't agree on a contract and decided to part ways. That was tough.
Fortunately, I had another supporter early on who has taken over the reins. Kelly Kulchak, EP for the shows Psych and Man Up, first saw CPA Holes when she received a DVD from the guy who does the maintenance for our rented house, Michael Middleton. No shit. That's how things happen here. Anyway, Kelly wanted to shop both projects from the get-go, and when my other deal fell apart, she stepped right in. Now we're a team. Also part of the team is my new agent (who Michael also indirectly got for me!) And to think, if my backdoor hadn't fallen off its hinges, I'd really be nowhere. Needless to say, these are all big changes from where I was before I made my little Kickstarter plea back in November.
So now we're getting ready to shop CPA-Holes to a half dozen applicable networks in hopes of getting an actual TV show out of it. Not a web series, but an actual show. It's a long long shot, but Kelly has sold shows before and I'm hopeful something will come of it. Then we're going to shop "Welcome to the Jungle Gym."
All of this is happening after Labor Day because the biz is kind of funky at the end of the summer, so keep your fingers crossed. I'm very excited to put CPA Holes in play. So far, it has been our little secret. Well, that secret is about to get out. Will Dr. Cobalt appreciate it? God help us all if he doesn't!!!!!!
