Hi Derrick, I'm sorry this kept you from enjoying watching the film. I'm going to explain to you all here: While we are sending you the full movie file, we are also responsible for not having the film available online before film festivals and other distributions. It wasn't easy to come up with an approach to fulfill both requirements, thus the watermark. It definitely won't appear on your DVD copies, we try to make DVDs as close to the final product as possible. We will try to make best adjustment possible, but please also understand that, our 2 filmmakers is working in different countries from us, and we're working across time zones & day jobs to work through any problems. In the mean time, all comments still welcome! Thank you~

Posted project update #12IT's Almost Done!! plus Hollywood
Post CommentDear Backers,A lot has happened in the past few weeks. Our movie is ALMOST DONE!!
In February Mu-Ming & Iris presented the almost final cut, we watched it 2 times internally, and then had 2 informal test screenings under tight time constraint. The first was a friends & family screening, the second was with... guess who... Paul Pangaro himself from NY and Hugh Dubberly who introduced us to him! We were so honored and the test screenings taught us a lot.We also spent time to send out rough cuts to the interviewees and generally had very positive feedback!
A Trip to Hollywood
Absolutely no less exciting:
Last week, we came back from Hollywood -- a trip to visit Haim Mazar, our composer's studio to see the live recording session of the score!
Following that we discussed briefly what the unfinished part of score could look like. It was AMAZING to see professional musicians come in, sit down, start playing and recording and get their work done. It was awesome, considering also the tight time budget Haim and the musicians were given.
Here we Come!
We also just sent out our first film festival application - Newport Beach Film Festival was very kind to inquire our interest even though the deadline has passed. It is so encouraging.Because of so many reasons, our screening schedule keeps getting delayed. Many apologies to you all. But you will see it in several months to come and we are very very much looking forward to that day!! -

Posted project update #11Update for 2012
Post CommentDear Backers,
Happy New Year 2012! We're excited to tell you we've been reviewing rough cuts of the documentary. Things are really moving forward. Muming and Iris have locked themselves up. Yang and Melissa have been self-learning what it means to produce a film, review content, plan for distribution, publicity, and handle legal terms.
An internal rough cut screening for the 4 of us~

Very luckily, we had one of the music backers offered to work for the whole movie score. After many considerations, we have decided to work with him solely for soundtrack, so the music part is also in progress. We'd like to thank all the artists who offered your work, and will continue to provide the publicity we promised. If you are interested, here's a final list of people/organizations we have filmed for making this documentary.
Thanks to New Sponsors
Two companies, Alljack Premium Factory and Kiddie Paradise are 2 new sponsors for the documentary. They are friends as well as sponsors. Thank you!
Seeing the Movie
We are settling down our deliver schedule. We estimate to have the film made in February, productions in March, screening in April/May, and send out your backer copies before that. The first show will most likely be in the San Francisco Bay Area! We welcome screening request from all over the world. Later on, the movie will be available for purchase.
Regarding screenings, feel free to contact us at: designthinking.movie@gmail.com
Meeting up with friend Eric helping us with ideas.
Thank You For Kickstarting Me.
A while back we were interviewed by a photographer JJ Casas to be included in his project documenting successful Kickstarter projects. It was our first time being interviewed! Recently it's launched on Kickstarter as well! Give it a look.

Posted project update #10Progress & Screening Plans
Post CommentDear Backers, hope every one is doing great!
Thanks to you all, Mu-Ming and Iris have retired to their editing room and began working with massive footage. At the same time, Yang and Melissa are working for more opportunities of funding and collaboration, throughout US, Taiwan, and rest of the world, so people would be able to see the documentary!
Screening Plans
We are making plans for screening and release some time early next year. If you'd like to see screening in your city, your event or your country, don't hesitate to contact us:
designthinking.movie@gmail.com
We are considering an open collaborative translation project for subtitles. We are only so good at English and Chinese, so this would probably be for Spanish, Japanese, German, Korean... well depends on how ambitious we all are!
If you think you stand in good place to work with subtitle translations, contact us too at the email above!
Speaking of global, let's give you a visual taste of how design thinking is happening in Taiwan, with an example of design thinking + non-designers...
An article by director Mu-Ming, telling his thoughts on MOT/TIMES online magazine.

And I tell you, he's a good writer! As well as one by Iris, sharing their Muris Media startup experience! Good job, guys!

Also, don't forget to enjoy music from our BACKERS!

Posted project update #9Progress in September
Post CommentDear Backers, thanks for the continuous support. Here's to share what we've been doing:
Filming
We've gone and explore stories with the following people:
- Jack Perez, Director of Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus
- Vince Voron, Head of Design in Coca-Cola North America
- Sarah Stein Greenberg, Managing Director of Stanford d.school
- Jennifer Palhka, Founder of Code for America
- David Kelley, Founder of Stanford d.school and IDEO
- Molly Fuller, Hands on Gourmet cooking schoolExchanging experiences
We were fortunate to experience being in front of the camera ourselves.
- JJ Casas' You Kickstarted Me project
JJ is a Bay Area photographer documenting successful Kickstarter projects through portrait photography, under the "You Kickstarted Me" project. He collects people's experiences and tips of successful funding and would later publish the whole collection with videos I believe. He's fun & nice and his works are amazing -- check it out! Among our usual operations, it's nice to think back about how it all began, and pick up the passion and momentum. Thanks JJ!
- Talk at Academy of Art University
We were invited by the Academy of Art University to give a talk at their Industrial Design program. Mu-Ming, Iris and Melissa, not far from schooldays ourselves, shared experiences of shooting a documentary from scratch as well as Muris Media's startup story. Wow, were we nervous! Thanks for joining us that night! Through the talk we felt again how the project came real because of so many people's help -- Kickstarter backers, friends, general interests, those who just lend a hand or a comment -- hope you know we are talking about you!
Schedule
We have to admit, because we were trying to find stories as diverse as possible, we are still doing interviews and filming up until now, the early half of October. This means we've got new great perspectives, but also means we have to delay our editing work, which will begin this month. We apologize for not being able to deliver the full film on time, but we promise to aim for the best result! It is a challenge for us to get the film rolling among our other day jobs, but we aim to have the rough cut by end of this year, no later than early next year when Mu-ming and Iris might be moving. Hopefully you will understand, and continue to demand ruthlessly for the film!
Soundtrack
We have spent quite some time listening to our backers' music, they are all so amazing great works! We tried narrow down direction of music style for consistency with the film and among each other. We were also struggling between using compiled works of different backers, or work with one single source. In the past month an opportunity emerged for the latter, and we are considering the option to work with one of the music backers for producing the film soundtrack. We hate to not have everyone's work jump on screen, but it is also very exciting to imagine we might have a dedicated composer working together! Either way, we will update you with the decision as we move along with filmmaking! Check out a compilation of all artists' work here.
Funding
Thanks to everyone, all our funds for the project is now sitting in an Amazon account. Rough estimate of their usage are:
10% - Amazon and Kickstarter fees.
30% - Fulfillment of Rewards
30% - Hiring professional assistance
30% - Production & distribution effortsThanks everyone!

Derrick beat me to the punch. I am also annoyed by the extremely large watermark at the top. Very annoying.
I was also surprised that you decided to use a quite polarizing visual, the "Occupy" marches, to start your video. I thought this was to be about design and not political.
Just finished watching the movie.
I'm happy how the film turned out overall, and glad I supported your project.
I wasn't bothered so much by the Wall Street march footage at the beginning since it is one of the problems we (or you Americans) have, and also pinpoints when this movie was made.
But it could have been images and videos from wider variety of problems especially if you want long lasting relevance in wider part of the world, since the "occupy" event will eventually be known to less people and I don't think it's not a well known event outside the US -- even in Japan at the highest times of the event, it was just a five minutes news coverage abroad, and weren't something that will affect us.
Moreover it could be a big turnoff for some people and have them turn demurrer to everything the film has to say, if the event had any impact on their lives. And those people might well be someone you want to get the message across.
I'm with the other two concerning the watermark, but I do understand you had to put it in there in order to release it to us early. I'll just consider it as a proof that I backed your project by owning the file :-)
Anyways, I hope the best for you and the film.
