Posted project update #13Deim Robinson's song "The Road" Premieres in Short Film
Post CommentRemember Project Update #6 when I told you one of my songs "might" be in a film? Well, next week is the premiere for the short film "No Existe el Adios" (Goodbye Doesn't Exist)! I'm so excited because it has always been one of my dreams to have one of my songs in a movie. I did two versions of the song. One at the FJ Romero Studios in Granada sitting at a gorgeous grand piano and the other (the version in the film), at the old dilapidated slightly out of tune upright piano in my sitting room that is used for gatherings of friends and family. The director was looking for a rugged, dirty sound. Well that's what he got and he loved its imperfection.
But the real good news is: I'M SENDING YOU THE SONG! Look in your emails this week for the studio version, it's not mixed or fixed or retouched. We set up the mics, I sat down, played and sang. This is as pure as it gets.
You guys and gals are out there in so many far corners of the world but you are so close to me in my heart. Thanks for your encouragement, for your spirit. I'm glad I can share this moment with you.

Posted project update #10Seasons of Love: The Recording Sessions - Cheluis Salmerón
Post CommentCheluis Salmerón is the mastermind behind this project. All the good and all the bad you can blame on him! He records, edits, arranges, produces, mixes, and even plays on a few tracks. He carefully considers every aspect of the music of Seasons of Love. In this video he explains (in Spanish) the machinery used to give the voice a warmer feel. For those of you who like the technical aspects I'm including a picture of one of the mics we've been using. You can also go to www.gargolarecord.com to look at the studio where we do most of our work.

Posted project update #9The Seasons of Love Recording Sessions
Post CommentCheck out the Recording Sessions as they happened. The first video is of the incredible Jose Lopez Montes, a classically trained concert pianist. He has done all the acoustic piano work on the CD and all of the string arrangements. He has a gold mine of music in his head and has been a vital part of the overall success of this project. Which, by the way, is moving along at a good pace. Tomorrow backing vocals with Rafa and Eli Hernandez. Last week we finished 2 more songs and am happy with the results.

Sorry I haven't been in touch. Things have been slow. My engineer/producer/brother-in law hasn't had a lot of time these last two months to work with me in the studio as he has had final exams to study for. (He's gone back to school to get a finance degree...long story one day I'll tell you all about it if your interested. )
Now we both have freed up our schedules and are recording the vocal tracks of all the songs with these brand new microphones that TELEFUNKEN has loaned to us. We only have them for two weeks so we have been recording non-stop this past week. I'm happy how Jonah Smith's tune "Don't You Let Me Go" has turned out. It's got a lot of swing. We've put in a new verse so I'm working that out for our next session.
I would love to give you all a completion date but every time I do that it turns out to be unrealistic. So I want you to know that we are working hard on Seasons of Love and you are in my thoughts each time I step up to the microphone in hopes that what finally reaches your ears is to your liking.

Posted project update #6Deim Robinson's first soundtrack song The Road We Take
Today soundtrack screening for the short film "No Existe El Adios" by Spanish director Pablo Bullejos. I wrote a song for the final scene of the film called "The Road We Take" and today the verdict if it will make the cut or not. Cross your fingers! This is the first time I've recorded singing while playing the piano. I usually hire someone to play who doesn't get nervous while playing...! It was a personal challenge for me and the director loved the song. Now the question is if the song goes well with the end of the film.
I've also been rehearsing and playing with my band Funkdacion this last month because we're celebrating our 15th anniversary this year (I've been with them for 10 years) and we're doing a special concert series.
So now, time to get back to Seasons of Love by the end of May we want to lay down all the vocal tracks and start mixing in June.

Cool! I met Pablo last Christmas... seems to be a nice guy and I'm pleased to see that he is also financing his project after all. Congrats... and do not forget to colgar a short video on you tube once you're selected. BTW, bad, bad, bad boy!! Who on earth would sign up for SGAE??? Next time Creative Commons... I measure how good a CD is by checking how many people are sharing and talking about it on the web... I'll be sharing yours ;) Just kidding!!!
