Thanks for your support :). We almost had enough pledges, 76%, to meet our funding goal, so I'm including this pastel painting in my next kickstarter project, which I just opened here:

In this new project, you get to vote for one of three pastel paintings of New Jersey by buying a print. The painting that sells the most prints wins and enters the public domain. I'm excited to find out which painting will win.

Posted project update #1How I got the commission for the watercolor
Post CommentI painted Cleveland Tower (the image on the left) in 2006 and then placed it on Wikipedia. Renovations were just finishing up in the basement of the Graduate College, and someone yoinked my painting for an invitation to students. Someone at the Graduate School saw the picture when the Dean of the Graduate School was preparing to send out his Christmas cards to alumni.
I hope I can use the public domain and copyleft as something of a self-sustaining income source.

- To attract viewers, including people interested in funding more public domain and copyleft releases
- Use kickstarter.com to give these people a way to fund releases of my work into the public domain and copyleft
- Repeat from top
In other words "I want to be PBS."
The idea would be to keep adding new viewers interested in free art so as to avoid burning out the original audience.
