Posted project update #7Looking Ahead to 2012
Post CommentThanks to your generous support, 2011 has been a wonderful year for Creative Migration!
Our film, Green Patriot Posters (GPP), brings together a strong community of artists, writers, designers, filmmakers, environmentalists and citizens whose powerful images, voices, stories and actions are contributing to 21st century sustainability through art and activism.
NOW, we’ve been invited to bring our film to the first interactive GREEN PATRIOT POSTERS exhibit at White Box Gallery in NYC this spring. The exhibit is being curated by GPP co-founder and our Associate Producer, The Canary Project. We are extending our fundraising campaign to finish our critical documentary film, and NEED YOUR CONTINUED HELP TODAY to raise $40,000 by April 1, 2012.
We plan to shoot more interviews in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York to include an environmental expert, an art curator, a social activist and everyday citizens as they learn about GPP.
DONATE VIA PAYPAL TODAY - same Kickstarter Rewards apply (while supplies last) - please indicate if you would like to upgrade your current Reward!
By increasing your contribution to this powerful on-going campaign you will:
- Create a public dialogue that actively promotes the building of a sustainable economy
- Meet the founders of GPP; renowned graphic designers, Shepard Fairey, DJ Spooky and others; as well as experts, activists and everyday citizens who are changing the landscape of the environmental movement
-
Learn about GPP educational workshops with diverse institutions such as the Rhode Island School of Design; the American Institute of Graphic Arts, and Citizen Schools, an organization that partners with middle schools to expand the learning day for low-income children across the country
-
Support museum and gallery exhibitions that feature GPP such as Graphic Design: Now in Production; this is currently at the Walker Arts Center in Minneapolis and is traveling in late spring to the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York City, as well as other venues
- Participate in an open source website where everyone can create, produce, comment, rate and distribute posters that create images of strength, optimism and unity for the sustainability movement
Other Creative Migration 2011 Highlights:
- We helped launch Project Green, an international conference on sustainable filmmaking held in Stockholm, Sweden. We participated (as the only Americans) with independent film label and production company NOMAD Films to mobilize a community of eco-minded film and video producers using sustainable methods of production.
- We are featured in 100 Days of Active Resistance, a book that presents community resistance to propaganda through photographic images. Selections were made from an online project by fashion designer, Vivienne Westwood to share her ideas for “100 days of positive thought, active change, speaking up and being heard.” Find us on Day 88. Proceeds from the book go to a climate change NGO, Cool Earth.
Thanks again to our generous supporters, dedicated board members, extraordinary volunteer film crew and the founders/contributors of Green Patriot Posters (GPP).
Let's make 2012 an even better year for Creative Migration!

Filmmaker and social activist: Susannah Tantemsapya
My passion is art and social activism. I am the Founder and Executive Director of Creative Migration, a non-profit organization that produces documentary films promoting art projects that inspire artists, filmmakers, musicians, designers, environmental activists and everyday citizens to promote and practice social change.
The film project: Green Patriot Posters
Our film builds on the momentum of Green Patriot Posters, a multi-channel campaign centered on posters that encourage all U.S. citizens to take part in building a sustainable economy. It has already reached 4-5 million people through bus ads, billboard campaigns, museum exhibitions and media coverage.
Here's the main story of our short documentary film:
- the vivid and compelling poster campaign at 8 bus shelters in San Francisco during December 2010
- the evolution and scope of the project including interviews with its founders and contributors
- the sustainable practices used and modeled throughout the campaign and filmmaking process

The communications campaign: a series of posters promoting environmental awareness and action
- These posters were selected from Green Patriot Posters, created and curated by Edward Morris (co-founder of The Canary Project) and Dmitri Siegel (director of marketing for Urban Outfitters)
- Morris and Siegel commission posters from design leaders, and have developed an online community for sharing and voting on original designs. The posters are then distributed as widely as possible, including an ecologically designed book, public advertising, workshops and our documentary film!
The players: artists, advocates and urban dwellers
We’re interviewing the following contributors/award-winning graphic artists: Shepard Fairey in Los Angeles, DJ Spooky and Michael Bierut in New York City and Mathilde Fallot in Paris; advocates for best environmental practices for artists; and people on the street who encountered these dynamic posters.

The environmental conference: Project Green
We are super excited because Green Patriot Posters is the only American film that has been invited to participate in Project Green, a sustainable filmmaking initiative and an environmental conference being held in Stockholm, Sweden in October 2011.
The Kickstarter campaign: we need your help NOW to raise $4,000 in 3 days!
Our deadline is 11pm PST on Monday, August 29th.
The opportunities for you - when you contribute to Green Patriot Posters you will:
- Learn to minimize your carbon footprint
- Join us as we model and educate the public about sustainable environmental practices
- Participate in a global community of artists, filmmakers, photographers, writers, publishers, activists and citizens advocating for social change

Posted project update #36GREEN PATRIOT POSTERS Kickstarter - 11 days left to fund - we need your help more than ever!
Post CommentDear backers,
Production for Project Green comes with its own set of challenges, primarily the time crunch we are now facing. Oh Kickstarter, it was so much easier to raise funding last year when we weren't in production during a campaign. I keep "kicking" myself that we chose 44 days instead of the full 60 days. But, it's not over. We have 11 days left, and a lot of faith that we will make out goal. Here comes the big push - it's gotta happen!

How do you make a film as "green" as possible? That is our challenge for Project Green, a sustainable filmmaking initiative launched by NOMAD Films and Global Action Plan Sweden. We are the only American participants, so this is a big deal - not only for our film on GREEN PATRIOT POSTERS, but also for Creative Migration.
This is the strongest project we have ever embarked on with the best opportunity to get our work out to a global audience. We have come far in a year, and you have been on this journey with us. It would mean the world to me if you could pledge again.
Here's some good news to share:
- LA and NYC crews are all set (volunteers supplying their own equipment)!
- NYC interviews and locations confirmed - DJ Spooky at Center for Architecture and Michael Bierut at Pentagram
- NYC accommodations courtesy of Pachyderm Consulting
- NYC flights courtesy of my frequent flyer miles!
- recording a Skype message this Friday from Mathilde Fallot for a Kickstarter!!!!
- planning travel to Stockholm and Paris
- our mentor, Adriano Valerio has been very helpful in guiding us through our creative process - he's super rad!
Please help Creative Migration make this happen (and as "green" as possible), not only does your pledge help our project, but you get cool rewards and your donation is tax deductible! Watch our 3.5 minute video to learn more: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/creativemigration/green-patriot-posters-project-green-nomad-films
Love,
Susannahp.s. there are a few rewards from the last campaign that I don't have addresses to send out - please send me a note with your current address so I can get it to you!
"What if the seasons didn't mean anything anymore? And climate behaved unpredictably? You don't really want to hear about global warming but increasingly you will have to." - Mathilde Fallot
