    Relaunched ...

I've taken this project down, and relaunched it here, because people weren't getting the concept that I really do need that $1 pledge -- without it, nothing happens.

    Sorry for the confusion.

Corruptions did not win at NHWP but...

... I'm launching a new word-of-mouth marketing campaign, also here on Kickstarter, to try to get attention for the novel in the crowded world of bookselling. As described on the project's home page, "Because it was self-published, Corruptions has had a limited readership to date, due primarily to the economics of bookselling. Bookstores won't stock self-published books, with the result that Corruptions is sold one copy at a time. This is not a fundraising campaign; it's a word-of-mouth strategic marketing campaign, to give this novel a chance in the marketplace. The opportunity to publish Corruptions came thanks to Kickstarter in late 2010; but publishing it hasn't been enough. It needs to be in the hands of enough readers to generate interest, support and buzz about the work and its message about America's politics. That's what this campaign is all about."

So if you're interested, pledge $1 and then tell all your friends. Kickstarter is all about momentum and word of mouth; getting a self-published book in front of readers is all about that too. Thanks for considering it, and thanks as ever for supporting this project in the first place. All the best,

    Jim

Finalist for the NH Writers' Project literary award!

I have just been told by the New Hampshire Writers' Project -- a group of over 700 "writers, readers, editors, agents, and publishers" seeking to "foster and celebrate writers in New Hampshire" -- that I am a finalist for this year's NH Literary Award for Outstanding Work of Fiction for my novel Corruptions. The other finalists in my category are: Jodi Picoult, for Sing You Home; Katherine Towler, for Island Light, and Ann Joslin Williams, for Down from Cascom Mountain.

The winner will be announced at NHWP's annual event on November 4 at the New Hampshire Institute for the Arts. If you want, you can vote for Corruptions for the People's Choice Award that they are giving for the first time this year. The link is here: http://tinyurl.com/NHWPnov4.

More useful, though -- since I think Corruptions is too dark to win a People's Choice Award -- would be to submit a review of the novel at Amazon. Go to this page, sign in, and you can add a short (20-word minimum) or lengthy review: http://tinyurl.com/CorruptionsReview. I'm hoping that announcement of the finalists will push people toward Amazon, and their research makes it pretty clear that customer reviews push book sales.

Thanks! And thanks again for your support so long ago!

    Jim

Corruptions made the first cut ...

... in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest, whose winner gets a book contract with Penguin and whose most active contestants have a chance to be noticed by publishers and agents. This was the easy cut, from about 2,500 contestants to 1,000, and the much more important stage is the next one, cutting the list down to 250 novels. That decision is made by Amazon's own judges, with the announcement made on March 22.

If I make the cut there, I may need your help in going to the Amazon website and reviewing my novel. I'll keep you informed.
