Posted project update #7Good Recruits -- A couple of our design/production team
Post CommentOne of the things that is most exciting about a new production of "A Klingon Christmas Carol" is that we'll have new production qualities. For instance, the costumes will be completely newly designed. And the fights will be choreographed anew as well.
The people who will be responsible for this? Well, we're chatting with Jeff Stolz about the costumes, and Brian Connelly about the fights. Jeff is a professor and costume designer at Viterbo University in Lacrosse, Wisconsin. Brian runs Asylum Stunts in Chicago.
Jeff's costumes have been on major stages throughout the Midwest. And they are awesome! Here's his bio: http://www.viterbo.edu/facpages.aspx...
Brian trains the top stunt talent in Chicago for film, TV, and motion capture. His site is http://www.asylumstunts.com
Jeff's son is a HUGE trekker, and saw the show in the Twin Cities with his dad last year. Brian contacted us when he heard we were coming to town.
We'd love to make them a part of the team for certain, but we can't hire anyone officially until we know if this is going forward. We still have a good amount to raise in the next two weeks.
Cross your fingers. And please, help spread the word!

Posted project update #6An uphill battle is merely a battle to be won while looking up!
Post CommentHey everyone!
We have exactly a month to bring in the remaining $8,500 in pledges. While it looks like a long-shot at this point, we approach the goal with honor. We will conquer the total with help from our allies.
If you have friends who would be interested in helping out with the campaign, this would be the time to let them know about it. Have you already done so? Well, give them a nudge. Since this campaign is all-or-nothing, we are looking at the potential of having our invasion of Chicago neutralized.
The thing is, I keep hearing from people around Chicago about how great it would be to have the show there. So... It's time to ramp up the efforts and make this happen.
Over the next few days we'll have a couple of new video updates that are only accessible to the project's backers. We're excited to share them with you.
Well... Now that the offensive has been declared, it is time to enter the foray.
Qapla'!

Posted project update #5Touring Space
Post CommentSo... over this past weekend, the show's authors and directors toured the Chicago space. It was great to be where the action is going to be this fall. Chris took a little bit of video with his digital camera (not really a video camera -- let's just say, far from HD... sorry), and pieced together a mini-tour video for you all to see.
We're over 10% of the way to the goal. Please keep the word going! Every little bit helps get us closer to being able to do the show in Chicago!

Posted project update #4Weekend Trip to Chicago
Well, a couple of us are taking a trip to Chicago this weekend to explore some of our options with spaces, publicity opportunities, and other things that can help to make this show go forward. Chris is taking his video camera along so we'll likely have some footage to share with you as soon as we're back.
As a side note, please help spread the word about the show. And about this campaign. We've still got a good chunk of money to raise to make any of this possible.
In the meantime, we would like to post the first line from the show as a bit of a teaser:
SQuja': taj yIroQ, vay’ oy’pa’! yIvumqa'!
Good luck on translating that back to English. We'll post what it means in the next update once we're back from Chicago.

Posted project update #3Klingons on the Radio!
Post Commenthttp://www.outsidetheloopradio.com/otl/2010/03/25/otl-episode-183/
The link right there will take you to the program "Outside the Loop". Artistic Director Christopher O. Kidder was a guest on the program earlier today.
We are the third story covered, so you might want to scan ahead in the podcast. Or, if you'd like to hear about the justice issues in the city of Chicago, by all means, listen to the whole thing. Whichever you'd like.
Oh... And if you would, please share this page (meaning the campaign) with your friends ... a dollar each will really start adding up!

Posted project update #2We're on the radio! This Thursday!
Post CommentOutside the Loop Radio is on WLUW 88.7 in Chicago at 10 a.m. Thursdays. We're letting you know that because "A Klingon Christmas Carol" co-author Christopher O. Kidder was interviewed by the program's host Mike Stephen this past weekend for a segment that will air this upcoming Thursday.
Conversation revolved around why we're bringing the show to Chicago, and a little bit of history about how the show came to be. It went great!
So... tune your radio in to 88.7 on Thursday, if you are in the Chicago area. If not, you can still hear the program. They podcast it, too, at the following website: http://www.outsidetheloopradio.com
Rock on!
Give it a listen, and then share the link with others. We've gained some momentum on this, but we need more.
Thanks!

Posted project update #1We're committed!
That title might also be read: "We ought to be committed"!
The contract negotiations with the Greenhouse Theater Center went so well, that I signed a contract this morning, and I'm putting in the mail to Chicago this morning, along with a deposit to hold the space.
The theatre seats 195. With 16 performances, that'll be 3120 people who can see the show in Chicago this year!
Huge thanks to those of you who have already contributed! It's great to see people's faith in what we're doing!
Qapla' balth je (Success and honor),
Chris

Bring "A Klingon Christmas Carol" to Chicago! by Commedia Beauregard
The Dickens classic has been translated into the Klingon Language. A huge hit in MN for 3 years now, we're bringing the show to Chicago in 2010!
Funding Unsuccessful (06/10/2010)

Have fun in our great city, although Saturday you might get a bit wet. Let me know if you need help distributing fliers and such.
