About 8 years ago, some friends and I tried to do this with the New Orleans St. Charles Streetcar Line, but our recording knowledge wasn't great and we ended up without windscreens and only 1 mic. I've now got a decent understanding of recording, and this project is motivating me to go back home and try this in New Orleans.
