New Year! New Website! New Excuses!

2012 is here and Mr. Lobo is glad to say things are back on track!

In case you heard it here first, my assistant and collaborator, Dixie Dellamorto and "Mr. Lobo" got married on January 13th of this year. This has forged a deeper partnership and we are now a deadly two headed art machine of creative justice!

We have a new editing system and several new production companies, including LEOMANN PICTURES and RANDORI PRODUCTIONS, helping to finish the remaining shows to meet our lofty goal of 26. We have a shooting day next Tuesday and Sunday these teams can help edit as well. A new horror channel that we cannot yet name has also promised to supply studio time and resources starting in May.

As you know, 2011 was a rough year for the show and many people close to the show, with more pitfalls than promise and many doors closing in our face that have been open for a long time. If it wasn't for your Kickstarter donations, I'm not sure how Cinema Insomnia would have survived. After our newest episode, a crisis of crew and computers, teamed with family health issues, and our resale DVD distribution hitting bottom resulted in a need for restructuring from the ground up.

We now control all remaining DVDs, which still were still selling well in person and are offering signed and number copies of the last few APPREHENSIVE FILMS versions of the shows. 25% discount is offered to all Kickstarter donors who email Mr. Lobo with any requests for episodes they want on DVD.

    mrlobo@cinemainsomnia.com

In September we will start mailing out all Kickstarter rewards, even if we do not yet have 26 new shows in the rotation. Thank you for your incredible support and patience...

In the meantime, we are sticking to our guns, writing, producing, and editing shows...for a brave new world beyond the DVD market. We will be keeping in continual contact with the fans through our new website CinemaInsomnia.com with a calendar that will post production dates as well as live appearances. New shows will also be posted there. Please contact us with any feedback and let us know how we can make the site more useful and enjoyable....

A MR. LOBO CHRISTMAS MIRACLE AND A SPECIAL 2 DVD DEAL...

    NEW SEASON, NEW THEME?

A MESSAGE FROM GENRE COMPOSER MARS ABOUT THE NEW CINEMA INSOMNIA THEME!

    Greetings CInsomniacs-

Mars from Dead House Music here. I recently had the distinct pleasure of "Re-Imagining" (Um...that's the preferred Hollywood catch phrase for exploiting great works of the past , right?) the CINEMA INSOMNIA theme music for this, the 10th anniversary season--begining SEPTEMBER 24TH.

Mr. Lobo & I talked back & forth about just how to properly update the music that has served so nobly thru the last decade and hundred plus episodes of the show. Ultimately, I decided to build upon the original piece (titled “ Stompin' at 3 am” by Stan Fong) rather than re-do it from the ground up. This way the core elements of the music would remain intact, and would be shown the proper respect. I added more guitars, Hammond organ, and horns, as well as some vintage Moog synth and the piece-d'resistance ...a theremin. Nothing quite sez "Weird" like that wonderful swirling mainstay of sci-fi soundtracks worldwide.

I sincerely hope the fans will enjoy this new theme as much as I enjoyed working on it.

Here is to (at least) another 10 years of CINEMA INSOMNIA!

    MARS

WHERE THE HELL IS MY STUFF???

    WITH GREAT POWER COMES WHATEVER...

Your faith in this project is not taken for granted. Mr. Lobo has been writing new shows and assembling films, props, and gear to get the job done for the 2011-2012 TV Season. Before Kickstarter we had made plans for a 5 month East Coast tour that included the film shoot for PLAN 9 starring Mr. Lobo and Brian Krause, Conventions, Film Fests, Radio and TV appearances--and Mr. Lobo has been taping segments for upcoming CINEMA INSOMNIA episodes as well. These "thank you" items have proven difficult to organize.

The note cards and ties we promised were supposed to be used in the shows and we haven't made them yet since I haven't yet begun the new season. The shirts will have to go out after we get back to California and I am in the middle of his east coast tour...I'm sorry for the wait but the "thank yous" will all be mailed at once so that we make sure everyone is taken care of...It will happen when the new shows start rolling out!

Something that has happened since Kickstarter is that my DVD and MERCH sales overall have dropped…I never considered this before but I hope that my usual customers don’t feel burned by their lack of Kickstarter merch…Jan through April are my slowest months usually so I didn’t consider this before. Please be assured that anything bought on MrLoboShop.com, Amazon, or TheGrindHouse.net will be mailed to you in a timely fashion. Copies of my new magazine HORROR HOSTS AND CREATURE FEATURES bought at horrorhostmagazine.com will also go out immediately as we now have hundreds of issues on hand--even though we are on the East Coast.

I am your horror host and I‘m here to serve. Horror Host fans are the most patient in the world…because they have to be! Things are definitely getting brighter for all of us and there will be much ferocious fun in the future!

Insomniacs! Take a look at THIS Kickstarter campaign! Thanks!

Dixie and I are still waiting for printed shirts and a few other rewards--but SOON the rewards packages will be going out! Thanks again, Insomniacs!

A lot of my filmmaker and artist friends have been inspired by our success and your generosity! Just recently my friend Keith, who appears on Cinema Insomnia as a certain human fly, has started a Kickstarter project for his comedy troupe--the ever popular COEXIST COMEDY TOUR...

    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/larrybrand/the-coexist-comedy-tour-documentary-film

A Muslim, a Christian, a Hindu, a Buddhist, an atheist and a Jew walk into a bar...
and then up onto the stage. It's The Coexist Comedy Tour, featuring six hilarious comics captured on film coexisting, not coexisting, laughing, crying, puking, praying and preying and now it's time to get this darn film finished so it can go out to all the world and show that Interfaith doesn't have to mean politically correct and wimpy. The tour reached up to Seattle's Comedy Underground, south to The Hollywood Improv and The Comedy Store and all points in between. Calls to the Iranian ministry of culture seeking bookings in Tehran have not been returned

Please back this amazingly funny and important group as time is running out!

Money in the bank! Inconvenience Fees! Cheap Thrills! Big Plans!

    Greetings CInsomniacs!

Exciting things are happening. Dixie and I are putting the new website together--while waiting for our editing problems to work out. We also dug up some RARE episode materal and put them up on our YouTUBE channel CinemaInsomniaTV. You can see all of my host segments for discontinued episode EL SANTO(Sampson) VS. THE VAMPIRE WOMEN and the lost episode GODZILLA(Gigantis) VS. THE SMOG MONSTER. yes a lost episode from 2004! All master materials were gone--this was taken from a quicklime found on a CD in my ex-associate's garage.

    http://www.youtube.com/CinemaInsomniaTV

The Amazon payments account is now accessible to us. Our first bite was in fees to Amazon and Kickstarter to the tune of $1,100 which leaves us with $10,040 to get the job done. We have set aside $1000 for an editing computer to be built by Olav and are purchasing some inexpensive costume materials today for Mr. Lobo’s new sidekick.
Button-lab has begun pressing 125 buttons to go out as backer rewards and I will be talking to November Fire soon about making T-Shirts for those at the $100 and above level...We also will need sizes from all of you and will be sending out a survey.

CInsomniacs have asked if the shirts and buttons will be available to the general public a la carte...I'm having trouble with that since these were intended as special rewards for you backers and our crew.

I'm thinking if they are available they should be for the same or simular commitment...

A T-shirt alone may be priced at the Kickstarter amount and include all the other premiums or minus the cost of the button, certificate, 8x10 etc. for just the shirt alone.

What do you CInsomniacs think about all this?

My office door is always open...

I think some sort of CI shirt celebrating the new season should be available to those fans who want one. Is it worth your time and trouble to create another design - something different than what the Kickstarter supporters are getting? If so, go for it! Generating income is a good thing, assuming T-sales can do that. Fans get to flaunt their particular sub-genre nerdiness while advertising the program. It's a win/win proposition! As for the investment and risk on your part, you'd know best. But I say keep the "Special Edition" 10th Anniversary shirts a truly special edition and offer the rest of us slacker, fair weather supporters something different. Different, but, uh...cool!

CInsomniac riv on January 6, 2011

let me first explain why i, personally, asked about the shirts.

since tom and i both love Cinema Insomnia, we both wanted shirts. i was going to forgo getting the one as a reward because tom wouldn't get one. i could not bring myself to ask for two shirts for donating, but i really do want a shirt...i bet they'll look really cool...and i was sad that i was going to say i did not want one. so, i thought if tom could subsequently buy a shirt for himself, then we'd be happy.

i really think they should be special, though. i'm sure tom and i are not the only couple who donated toward the new season, so what if you let anyone who donated buy ONE extra shirt and/or button from november fire? the things we donors are being rewarded with should be just for us, i agree with Mister Lobo there. just any old cheapskate shouldn't be allowed to wear these special shirts and buttons.

        just my 2¢ worth.

I think Amazon.com should be charging less for the KickStarter service. If they truly want to assist endeavors such as this they should not be charging such a high percentage of donated funds. It's kind of like charging church parishoners for offerings. Obviously this is a bit aside the point...Shirts?! I love them! Charge a "higher" price or directly ask for donations in order to receive one. Don't sell special shirts at a regular price! This ain't welfare g-d damn it! ;-)
