Posted project update #9Thank you so much!
Thanks to all of you who pledged during our Kickstarter campaign and helped us raise more than $6100! That money will help us cover our streaming and licensing fees as we bring you a brand new radio station at CHIRPradio.org -- launching in January 2010.
In addition to our web efforts, the Local Community Radio Act is expected to get a full House vote sometime this month, and the Senate is marking up the bill in the Commerce Committee next Thursday. All this means things are moving in the right direction so that CHIRP may be able to apply for a low-power FM broadcast license in the not too distant future -- more exciting news regarding our efforts!
But once again, we are so appreciative of your pledges. Your credit cards will be charged very soon. And once that happens, we'll begin sending out thank-you gifts. For those of you who requested shirts or hoodies, we'll be in touch to ask you about a size.
Additionally, you'll all receive acknowledgment letters and invitations to our CHIRP studio open house, coming up early in the new year. And be watching for news of all sorts of exciting CHIRP launch events happening throughout the next several months.
The photo below was taken in the CHIRP space at our most recent staff meeting. From all the people pictured (along with the many CHIRP volunteers you don't see), thanks so much!
Best,
-Shawn Campbell

Posted project update #8Homestretch!
Post CommentWell, we're down to just over 24 hours to go on our campaign, and we're over $6000! Thanks so much to all of you who've made pledges -- we couldn't do this work without your support. As a practical matter, just a reminder that your credit cards will be charged for your pledge as soon as our campaign ends at 11:59PM tomorrow.
We're making great progress on the CHIRP space. Attached are a couple of pictures featuring the latest views of the CHIRP main studio in preparation for our launch in January 2010. We've just started the process of getting the air staff into place as well, so we're very excited -- things are seeming more and more real!
Thanks again,
--Shawn & everyone @ CHIRP -

Posted project update #7Everything's coming along nicely!
Post CommentYou guys are so great! You've helped us pass our original $4800 goal, which should cover our first year of streaming costs for the web version of our brand new CHIRP radio station, launching in January 2010. Now we're on our way to raising our additional $1000 to cover our first year of archiving and licensing costs as well! Just $690 to go to hit our revised goal of $5800, and our generous music world supporters keep donating more great items for us to offer up as thank-you gifts.
We've got dozens and dozens of CDs and other items still available, and we'd hate to not have them find good homes. So if you're up for it, we'd love to have you share news of our campaign via Facebook, Twitter, e-mail, or other social networking. Our friends at Kickstarter make it all so easy -- just click the appropriate icon on our page to let your friends know about our campaign. Be sure to let people know that we're trying to raise an additional $1000, and that we have less than $700 to go to meet that goal.
CHIRP Radio wouldn't be possible without your help, and we look forward to bringing you a brand new station at CHIRPradio.org in just a few months! Please spread the word.
Thanks so much for your help,
--Shawn @ CHIRP -

Posted project update #6Help CHIRP raise $1000 more before our campaign ends on November 11th!
Post CommentWe're thrilled that our campaign to cover our streaming costs has been so successful, and we send our huge thanks to you. But because the campaign runs until November 11th, we hope we can use this time (and a bunch of cool new thank you gifts) to raise some funds to cover additional costs related to our streaming expenses -- namely archiving and licensing fees.
Initially, we left these costs out of our overall goal because we wanted to be a bit conservative and make sure our campaign would succeed. But because our supporters have come through in such a big way, we're hoping we'll be able to raise an additional $1000 before our campaign ends.
If you've already given, thanks so much! If you haven't yet pledged, we hope you'll consider jumping in now, checking out our new thank you gifts from the Numero Group, Sub Pop Records, and the Old Town School of Folk Music, and pitching in a few dollars in support of CHIRP's efforts to bring a brand new radio station to Chicago and beyond.
Thanks again!

Wow, that's kind of a tiny little picture, huh? But our appreciation is HUGE!
