Jeramy Zimmerman is a co-founder and the director of CatScratch Theatre. She lives in Brooklyn where she makes dances, performs and teaches. On most days she also showers. To prove her legitimacy to family members and others, Jeramy has two degrees in dance: a BFA from Stephens College in Columbia MO and an MFA from Tisch School of the Arts at NYU.
Jeramy’s work has been performed on stages and in non-traditional places such as the Staten Island Ferry, in front of the New York City Stock Exchange, the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage and Chateau Cazals in southeastern France. She has directed produced large-scale projects in both DC and NYC, most recently 60X60Dance, a one-hour extravaganza of 60 one-minute dances paired with one-minute musical compositions. HOMELAND is her first full-evening production of her own choreography.
CatScratch Theatre is a scrappy band of misfit dancers. We dance anywhere that we can and even some places where we can’t. We’re classy and well-trained, but irreverent. We’re usually dressed to the nines.
We believe that art is powerful. It has the power to unite and heal. It has the ability to promote peace, empathy and understanding. It can spark a revolution or an economic revitalization.
We have a strong commitment to and history of community activation. Our earliest performances were guerrilla – taking dance to the people instead of convincing the people to come to us in a theater. Over the years, we have stayed true to our roots by public performance that seeks to alter the way that New Yorkers view and interact with their environment.
Our latest project, HOMELAND, brings the ideas of encountered performance into a more formalized theater setting.

Posted project update #3Thank you!
I just want to thank you again for your part in making Homeland happen. Without meeting this Kickstarter goal, I don't know how we would pull it off. Contributions started at $5 and went up from there. 59 of you backed this project. What a wonderful example of people coming together to make something great happen.
Speaking of something great, the show is right around the corner. Februray 25-27. Get your tickets here: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/99420
I can't wait to see all of you to express my gratitude in person.

commented on a project updateKarl, it seems a bit daunting, but I don't think you should give up just yet. Kickstarter can be a great thing, but you have to constantly push it. On facebook, on twitter, by email. If you have the day free, I can imagine that you'll make it. In my last project, I raised the last $1,200 in just a day or so. But I was on facebook and twitter every 30 minutes. If that's no doable, then I wish you luck in your next effort.

Posted project update #2Crossing the finish line!
We are almost there! We have just $370 to raise in the next 8 hours and 35 minutes. Thank you for everything - the pledges, the re-postings and re-tweets. I am thrilled that we're on target to hit our goal (and the dancers are happy too!) and I'm excited to have 50 backers! This goal will be met with pledges that start at $5 and go from there...
I don't want to celebrate too soon - we're not quite there yet. I'm sure we can get this last $370 taken care of. Please share this project with people who share your interests (or who do what you tell them to do). This would also be a great time to increase your pledge by $5 or $10 if you can. (I have no way of knowing who has increased their pledges, so there is no pressure on that front.) It could make all the difference.
You have all made this bitterly cold day much warmer. Thank you! I hope to see you all at the show.
xo,

I am so excited. Thanks for your pledges. We are 69% funded and I think we'll make it. If you know someone who's always trying to be just like you, let them know about your pledge!

Posted project update #2Homeland benefit wine tasting December 6
Hello darling,
Thanks to you, Homeland is rolling toward the premiere February 25-27. I just signed the contract for the performance space a bit more than a week ago. I'm so excited. We're planning a wine tasting benefit for Sunday, December 6. You should be getting the email invitation today or tomorrow. If you have contributed at least $25, you can redeem your cocktail party prize. If you'd like to attend, please email me (jeramy@catscratchtheatre.org). If you don't receive the email, please let me know, as it means I don't have your current email address.

Good morning!
Thank you to all of you for backing Homeland. It wasn't looking promising at the beginning of the week, but together you kicked in more than $1,000 in just a few days. We are 125% funded for this goal. That's exciting news. The overall budget for Homeland is just under $19,000, so all money raised past the goal will go toward other budget items like paying dancers, musicians, lighting and costume designers, and paying for the remainder of the performance space.
I look forward to keeping you updated on the progress of Homeland and to inviting you to the show in February!
xo,
Jeramy
