Posted project update #1Im here!! The peruvian healthcare project has begun!!
Post CommentHello all!
Day 2 in Ayacucho, and I am still in shock. Ayacucho is truly amazing and humbling. My house is surrounded by the Andes, making me feel as if I live in a small fishbowl with the peaks surrounding us 360 degrees. The town is truly authentic, we are the only "gringas" in sight (gringa is actually not a slur, as i first took offense at it yesterday). The poverty level is at 70% here, those who are under the poverty level live on less than 2$ a day, so needless to say your donations will be doing some serious good here. My clinic serves over 3000 people, with only 2 doctors and up to 5 nurses max on staff. They have little to no supplies, and no electronics to speak of, although they deliver babies almost daily, as well as perform routine childcare checkups, vaccinate, and perform minor surgeries.
I cannot wait to get to work there, and hopefully it will become clear what the money raised will be the best to help these people.I will be setting up some kind of blog in the next few days so i can post videos and pictures, so I will be sure to let you all know the address.
Feel free to shoot me an email at any time, I will be able to check them weekly!!!
Thanks again for all of your help, this is truly an incredible experience, and i can only imagine the experiences and knowledge that will be accumulated in the coming weeks.
Hasta Luego!!

Annette, Congratulations! Your project sounds amazing, and is truly a great inspiration to those out there who are also trying to problem solve a way to get children back on top of education! Thanks so much for your support for my project! We truly are a small bunch on this site who are trying to do big things for others!!
