Posted project update #8Wow!
Post CommentThank you all!
In 3 days we've gone from 23% to 82%!
We have $100 left to go (finally a round number), and I'd love to break the funding goal by noon today.
Can we get 10 people to give $10 each? Most of you reading this have already given, but spread the word if you can.
Any contributions over $10 get a 4x6 print (or larger, if your contribution is larger) of this image of Central Park. ONLY until noon today.
Thanks!

Post CommentThe ultimate goal of this project is to enhance our knowledge & understanding of southwestern PA's industrial history.
If you live in the Pittsburgh area, you've probably heard of Carrie Furnace (across the river from the Waterfront), and the Eliza Furnace from the "Eliza Furnace Trail"--the furnace that supplied the hot metal across the Hot Metal Bridge.
The ones you probably haven't heard of are Edith, Anne, Isabella, Lucy. These were other furnaces at the steel mills in the area. There was also Dorothy 6 -- the #6 furnace at the Duquesne Works. One of the largest built in the world, it was the pride of the plant.
The workers at Duquesne works were so proud of their plant that when it was being shut down, they tried to purchase the plant from the steel company to continue, worker-supported, the steel operations. The deal fell through at the last minute, but that kind of pride in your work is something that's hard to forget.
Another lady in the area is the Schenley Brewery -- named for Mary Schenley who sold them the land to build the brewery. It's still sticking around, if a little run down.
Just some thoughts for the day. 7 days left -- please support this effort to document our industrial history before it's gone.

Posted project update #510 days to go!
Post CommentWe're 2/3 of the way through the project, and only about 1/3 funded.
That's no fun at all!
So, we're pulling out the big (ish) guns today only:
$15 or more gets you a 4x6 print of the 6th, 7th, 9th street bridges, in addition to any backer rewards.
$40 or more gets you a 5x18 panorama print of the very industrial Bruno & Neville Islands, in addition to any backer rewards.
