Exciting developments: I've finally commenced recording my new record!
This winter I slowed things down as I explored production ideas with tons of great musicians and producers. I'm finally in a place where i can start to put this together on tape, with the stewardship of producer Paul Loren, founder of the Five & Dime Recording Society in Brooklyn, NY.
His studio is in the DUMBO neighborhood. The acronym stands for "Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass," and rightly so – it's possibly the loudest place on earth. This might sound like an unlikely choice to locate a state-of-the-art recording studio, but the quiet basement level of many of the buildings there are filled with the studios of my bandmates, collaborators, and comrades. It's THE modern-day Tin Pan Alley. The Five & Dime studio is located in a basement dubbed "The Saltmines," after one of the other studios that pioneered the space: Saltlands (Steve Salett). Currently recording next door is Sam Cohen and his band Yellowbirds. With any luck, some of his excellent playing will bleed through the walls onto my record!
Stay posted - this is hopefully gonna come together over the next 6 weeks or so.
If I was ever to use an emoticon to help convey my excitement, it would be right now.
But I'm not.
