IT'S OFFICIAL - WE DID IT!

Today our kickstarter project made its goal! Thank you so much to all of our backers who made this happen! The Kickstarter finish line is here, and baby, it feels good.

Head on over to our Sticking Place blog to see a list of our much loved backers! From the bottom of our Sticky hearts, thank you!

    Love,
    Josephine & Brittany

ps. There are still 50 hours to go, which means folks can still continue to pledge towards The Sticking Place Film. If we make over 20,000 we'll be able to afford to give even MORE love to the project for costs that include putting bread on the table of our talented team of web developers, flash designers and sound mixers, as well as covering the ongoing costs of web hosting and internet bandwidth, production travel, and festival submissions! We are so grateful for your support, and can't wait to bring you one amazing documentary! We feel pretty darn lucky.

    The 4 Day Countdown!

I think maybe the best part of running a Kickstarter campaign to fund The Sticking Place has been seeing it go from us telling others why we believe in this with everything we have, to others telling us why they believe in it with everything they have. At the end of the day, that’s the whole point – to inspire people to search within themselves and find what makes the ups, downs and all-arounds of this life worthwhile.

With 4 days left in this Kickstarter campaign and a bit of ground to cover yet before we reach the $20,000 finish line, I wanted to leave you with excerpts from a message someone posted about the film, leaving Britt and I feeling especially inspired:

So why am I suddenly so interested in the pursuit of female wrestling these days?

Sometimes you are unprepared for how much your life will be impacted by someone else's passion, which is completely different than your own.

When I started looking at these trailers for The Sticking Place doc as it comes together, I realized what the feisty duo of Brit and Jos are trying to get across. The message is so much more multifaceted than simply wrestling or sports. It is about committing to a dream, and following it with all you've got. Taking risks that other people would say are crazy. And the funny thing is, in the world of filmmaking, that is exactly what these gals are doing, by putting together this groundbreaking method of experiencing film (in the form of an interactive documentary), not only that -- but making it accessible to everyone on the internet for free.

This really is project that almost anyone can get excited about...

If you believe that all people should commit themselves to their passions
If you believe that women are tough too
If you believe in independent film
If you believe that the arts have the capacity to inspire people
If you believe that sports have the capacity to inspire people
If you believe that you have the capacity to inspire people, whatever you are passionate about,
If you know what it's like to follow after something you love and take scary risks in the process...

If you decide that this phat local grassroots talent is something you can get behind, please tell your friends about it, and let's all make a bowl of popcorn this spring/summer, and get inspired about...well, inspiration itself.

The Kickstarter countdown continues! Please spread Sticking Place love all around.

-Jos + Britt + the sticking place crew

ps. Before she wrestles, Leah always rocks a pair of headphones and busts out some dance moves to get revved up. Listen to the playlist Leah listened to before the big showdown at Olympic Qualifiers and just TRY to sit still. I dare ya.

    Six Days Left

Dearest Sticking Place backers + fans,

I write this in the wee hours of December 25. Whether this message finds you in a state of yuletide cheer or bah-humbug gloom, we wanted to send you a little somethin' somethin' that our Sticking Place elves cooked up:

The Sticking Place is about having a dream and following it with all you've got. Today especially, we wish you a full dose of joy, peace, love, adventure, passion and hope to fuel you as you pursue your most treasured dreams.

As we enter the FINAL WEEK of our Kickstarter campaign, we are wired on eggnog and buzzing with anticipation. If you, like us, feel deeply and infectiously inspired by Leah and her story, take this image and spread it around like wildfire!

Keep it real, spread the holiday love!

    Much love,
    Jos + Britt

LEAH CALLAHAN IS HEADED TO THE OLYMPICS

    FRIENDS! FANS! BELOVED BACKERS!

We are so proud to announce that at last weekend's Canadian Olympic Wrestling Team Qualifiers, Sticking Place star, Leah Callahan, bested her rival, ten-time National champ Ohenewa Akuffo, and has now officially earned a spot on the 2012 Olympic Team. We couldn't have asked for a more exciting finale for the documentary- nerves, tension, drama, laughter, edge-of-your-seat action- all of it culminating in a heart-stopping moment when Leah pinned Ohenewa to end the match.

(The Tired Lion butts heads with her rival during the epic showdown)

But at the end of the day, it didn't really matter whether Leah won or lost; her whole journey has been so incredibly inspirational to witness and we cannot WAIT to share it with all of you + the world. We're now almost into the final week of our Kickstarter campaign with just over $9000 left to raise. To help inspire all of you to encourage your own networks of creative cats to get on board Team Sticking Place, here is a little music video we've put together about sparing a little change ('tis the season!) This is our moment of glory friends- together we can!

The Delicious Smell of Press In the Morning

We were the subject of a wonderful article in Josephine's alma mater's newspaper, The Ubyssey, this morning! Read it here.

“Leah’s journey is an Olympic journey, but in one way or another, we’re all on our own version of an Olympic journey. Many of us are pursuing something that we care about and so many of us get to a point where the dream is challenging and we have to persevere through those challenges... our documentary really explores those challenges and the uncertainty in changing one’s course or pushing through those obstacles.”

Thanks to Kayi Wong for the great interview!

The Little Kickstarter that Could, or Portrait of An Athlete

WE GREET THEE STICKIES from the other side of the literal and metaphorical mountain that was the Whistler Film Festival. We were very serious and sombre the whole time, and definitely did not spend a single moment in our robes making silly faces.

(We demand to be taken seriously)

But the real purpose of this note is to let you know that we have almost hit 40% of our total funding goal, and to celebrate, we've released another little video teaser to delight your corneas. We're hoping that this one brings a couple of Olympic sized tears to your eyes, so prep that hanky...

We now have just 27 days to get the word out about the film, so spread these videos far and wide lovelies; indeed, to the farthest and widest corners of the internet. Blog it. Book it. Twitter all about it. Link it in. Myspace it. Digg it. Email it. Txt it. and most importantly, KICKSTART IT!!!!

From the bottom of our Sticky hearts,

    Jos + Britt
