Posted project update #25Allison Weiss Was Right All Along
By now, many of you have received your rewards and preorders promised to you for helping me make this dream a reality. If you still haven't gotten a copy, consider picking one up anywhere mp3s are sold (iTunes, Amazon, etc) or getting a physical one straight from me at http://allisonw.com/store. After all, the purpose of this project was to pay for the packaging, and though it ended up helping me fund the entire record, I must say that these digipaks came out looking hella tight.
Kickstarter was featured today in the New York Times' "2009: The Year In Ideas", and I was mentioned all throughout the piece. I just want to say THANK YOU to everyone who backed me on this project, and thank you to Kickstarter for existing. This whole experience has done so much more for me than fund a record. I've learned so much about the power of the internet and the value of a supportive community. I love everyone!
Anyway. Sorry to get all sappy. New record is out. I'm going on tour next week. I'm ready to take this to the next level. This is only the beginning!!!

Posted project update #20Album cover and title revealed!
Hey Kickstarter backers! I bet you're wondering what I've been up to. Welly well well, I've been busy discovering that there sure are a lot of bases to cover when releasing an album the proper way. But I'm staying tough and making it happen! The physical copies of the album should be here in about a week, and here's where I show you the cover!
I’ll post a song when the preorder starts next week. Album comes out on 11/24. CD release parties 11/28 in New York City and 12/2 in Athens, GA. Spread the word!

Posted project update #18State of the album address
Hey guys! I figured I should give you an update on what's been going down.
As of now, the record is in it's final stages of mixing. A couple weeks ago I left it in the hands of my friend and hero Dan Romer, who has been spending his spare time making it sound awesome. You might know him from the work he's done with Ingrid Michaelson and my good friends Jenny Owen Youngs and Bess Rogers. The man is a badass and is making me sound REALLY cool. Get ready!
I have spent the last 6 hours working on the first draft of the album artwork. If all goes according to plan, I could have this sent out for pressing in the next week! Right now I'm hoping for a November release, mostly 'cause I want to have some time to promote it after I get the physical discs in my hands. PLUS I have to have time to send out copies to all of you who are getting it early!
Anyway, stay tuned for more information.
OH! And thank you everyone who watched the Marathon live stream a couple weeks ago! It was fantastic. If you missed it you can still watch the recording over at http://allisonweiss.tv. Just click "Menu" and then "On Demand". I'm warning you though, it's 4.5 hours long.
And of course, everyone who donated is going to get a recording of the whole thing. I'll be posting it here when it's ready!
That's it for now. Talk to you soon!
XO

Posted project update #16The Final Countdown! WE DID IT
YES! Congratulations to me and to you, because this August you're going to get to watch me kill myself via playing 50+ songs in a row. That's right! Over 7k has officially been donated to my KickStarter fund and so I'm going to do a live-streamed marathon performance of every song I've ever written in celebration of the finale. It'll be you and me and a bunch of people you've never met, all chatting and watching me die, and we're going to have so much fun! BYOB!
Stay tuned for the exact date (it will probably be a Sunday afternoon in late August).
THANK YOU SO MUCH to everybody who donated. You're making dreams come true, you know. I really hope everyone likes the record I've (almost) made.
And as one more reward, I am going to record the audio of the entire marathon show and everyone who donated will receive a digital download of it. That's a shit ton of songs, you guys. If you want in on this super crazy collection of songs, you've got one more day to make a pledge and get your name on that list.
I love you. You're the best. Seriously!!!!
xoxo

Separately, they'd spent many long years honing their skills in songwriting and battle, until the time came for them to take the final step in their education. It was a journey of epic proportions; a common goal that brought the three together in a quest to spread awesome music. A Quest For Glory.
On July 31, Lelia Broussard, Bess Rogers and Allison Weiss will embark on a two week crusade to conquer cities, slay dragons, and most importantly, find glory. With their respective independent releases and energetic live performances, the trio have sparked attention and excitement among their fans, the music industry, and oppressed peasant villages, all who anxiously await their arrival.
Along the way, the ladies will fully document the adventure through QuestForGloryTour.com, Twitter, Tumblr, and YouTube, so that the world may know of their pursuits. And it doesn't end there. Those villagers who make the pilgrimage to see each show will have a chance to achieve knighthood themselves.
And so it begins. Our heroes leave soon. Armed with catchy melodies, clever lyrics, and formidable guitar/jousting skills, these ladies challenge rock and roll to a duel to the death and win. They're ready for whatever obstacles may come their way, confident that the future brings only glory, music, and the adventure of a lifetime.

Posted project update #13Entering the last week of recording!?
Hey pals! So this week should be the last we spend in the studio. So far we've got everything down except for two quieter acoustic tracks. The only thing left to do is record vocals, add some piano and tambourine here and there, and send it away to be mixed! Fingers crossed that everything goes according to plan and we can call it done before I leave for New York next Tuesday.
Also! Not sure if I updated on this yet, but we reached 6K which means two extra tracks are going to be added to the original 8! America voted, and the winning tunes are:
"Try To Understand"
"July 25, 2007"Get excited!
Check out this article about me in Athens Banner-Herald (hometown paper). I talk about Kickstarter, the internet in general, and making the new record. Pretty cool!

Posted project update #12Studio Update #1 - Beginnings!
I feel like it’s time for a studio update!
We began tracking last friday. Knocked out the drums that night and the bass the next day (my guys are like one-take wonders) and have since been working on acoustic guitars and some overdubs. Three songs are close to being done in that regard, still more work to do on some of the others.
The things that take the longest are when I take forever to choose the right keyboard sound because “this one sounds too much like a video game” or “right now it feels like I’m walking through a park on a sunny day in an old movie and I would rather it sound more like a pop punk song,” or when we track some really epic strings into the bridge and at first it sounds awesome but then I have second thoughts and decide that the song should probably have no ambience at all, or when I simply fuck up my guitar solo over and over until I hate myself. Basically it is all my fault.
That said, all of those things are also the most fun. Playing songs live is awesome because you just go with it and feel that shit and have a blast. Playing in the studio is awesome because you get to surprise people when they’re wearing big important headphones and hearing the little things.
Anyway, what do I know. Nothing. I know nothing about making records. But so far I’m excited about this one and I think you’re gonna like it too.
The week is over for now. Athfest starts tomorrow so I’m spending my weekend living the dream.
We go back into the studio on Monday to start and finish more overdubs and then begin on the two straight acoustic tracks. One is going to get recorded in this giant room down the hall from Nate’s place. Another might end up full of analog keyboards. WHO KNOWS.
Also, last night Nate told me that the building is haunted.
Great.

Posted project update #10What does it mean to be DIY?
"No offense, but what exactly is so DIY about asking the internet to fund your EP?"
A simple question. No offense taken, but I feel the need to explain.
DIY: Do It Yourself. A term once associated with fixing faucets and making birdhouses is now applicable to the music business. But what does it really mean?
I am a DIY artist. I have no label, no manager, no agent. I book my own tours, I design my own merch, cook my own meals, and pay my own bills. I shoot and edit my tour docs. I tune my own guitar. I made the video for "I'm Ready" by myself. I run my website, store, MySpace, Twitter, Facebook, etc. I hand-pack every CD I sell online and try to personalize every order. If you send me an email I will probably write you back. I don't know what it means to be "normal" anymore, because all of my thoughts revolve around making music, playing music, and promoting music. This is my dream and I am pursuing it.
That said, no man is an island.
I came up with an idea. I could use this website to rally the people who believe in me. Would they want to invest in my future as much as I have? I didn't know. So I went for it. And it was more successful than I could've ever imagined.
DIY is about community. It's about trading shows and sleeping on eachother's floors, sharing the wisdom and secrets you learn about this business on and off the road. It's about helping out your friends and asking for help when you're in need. The acronym is not entirely truthful, I know.
There are so many incredible people who support me and my endeavors every day and I am beyond thankful for all of that. After all, I would be nowhere if it weren't for all of you guys, the ones who are listening to the music I'm making.
Who knows if I'll continue on this way. I assume I will eventually graduate to a new level, and I really hope you'll support me if/when that time comes. I really truly love you and I love playing music and I want to be able to do it for the rest of my life!
Anyway, sorry if this is really intense.
The bottom line:
"Do It Yourself" is actually more like "Do It Yourself & With A Little Help From Your Friends."So thank you.

Posted project update #8Vote on songs for the new album!!
Alright. I know I'm supposed to have written that song about marshmallows, unicorns, airplanes, etc...but it's still not done. In the video below, you can see me awkwardly singing along to what I have so far. I promise I'm working on it! Things are crazy right now!
But in more important news, it's time to vote on the two songs that will be added to the new album!! Whichever gets the most votes is definitely going on, and if we reach 6K, the runner up will be added too! How awesome is that!
So please visit http://allisonw.com/vote to check out your options and make it happen.

ALL-REQUEST HOUR TODAY AT NOON PST / 3PM EST @ WWW.ALLISONW.COM/LIVE
So I told the internet that if we raised 4k for my Kickstarter EP Fundraising Project by last night I'd do an all-request live stream today. And thanks to some generous donations by a ton of wonderful people, we did it! It'll be me and a guitar and I'll play whatever you request as long as I know it. I'd like to play my own songs of course, but I do know some covers so if you suggest the right one I might be able to pull it off.
Tune in at http://allisonw.com/live
Also! This means we've reached the second goal and I'll be adding another track and you guys are going to get to vote on it! Stay tuned for details on how we'llmake it happen.

Posted project update #5The Madness Continues
Oh my god. We just hit the 3k mark. Seriously?!
Here's a video I made for you yesterday on my way to Portland. In it, I go over how excited I am about everything and I tell you about my plans for this EP.
Basically, if we can double the original amount, I can add another song. I am confident now that this can happen. I'm so pumped to make this EP. It's amazing to know that so many people believe in what I'm doing and are totally cool with helping me achieve my dreams. I look forward to being able to spend more time in the studio making this EP really awesome for all of you. Thanks for being a part of it all!
Also there's some clips of me poorly playing my brother's electric guitar. There was a phaser on it. I couldn't resist.
AND I'm working on the Marshmallow/Unicorn/Airplane/OrangeJuice song. It's almost done. Get excited.
---
SO here's the official track listing (not the official order, though):
Let's Leave
Yer Goin' Down
From You To Me
Fingers Crossed
Ghost Stories
You + Me + Alcohol
Why Bother
I Was An IslandIs there a song you want on the EP that you don't see here? Help me raise the extra dollars and then maybe we can make it happen! Start thinking about what you want to hear. It can be any song I've ever written. I've got a ton of songs up on iTunes, MySpace, and YouTube.
