Posted project update #17Latest update from the Institute of Robots Love Ice Cream
Post CommentHey everyone,
Burton here. My, has it been a long time! Rest assured that with the absence of our communications, we've been very hard at work. A lot of it has been earning money via contract work to keep the lights on/bills paid, paying for contract help on the game, and a few odds and ends. That contract work aside, we've been making what I think is some great progress on the game. We're not quite to our first milestone (the first one is likely larger than several of the others combined), but things are about to kick into overdrive.
Starting next week, I'll be able to afford to work almost exclusively on Robots Love Ice Cream (RLIC) for the coming three to four months. It's something I've worked a lot of late nights to position myself to do. Needless to say, it has been quite the challenge to work all day and then come home and work until 4-5am in the morning and repeat that through the whole week. I think we're still about 3-4 weeks away from our first milestone and we'll be pulling back the curtain quite a ways on the look and feel of the game.
I am also planning to begin blogging regular updates several times a week from www.addogames.com. I want to share our progress, screenshots, maybe some videos here and there and really get you guys earnestly involved with how we're doing. And frankly, you guys deserve more regular communication and updates and I'm sorry we haven't been able to provide that. This project is very much your project and we want you guys to become more involved.
I do think we need to be careful to not paint so complete a picture until closer to launch. For those that may not be so intimately involved with the indie game development scene, there's been a lot of copying of games designs lately and we need to work to prevent that from happening to RLIC, especially before we get to market. While we plan on trying to copyright what we can with the resources we have, it can quickly become an expensive endeavor. We cannot copyright the idea and feel of the gameplay experience, only things like interface layouts and the wording of instructions.
Thanks for all of your continued encouragement and support. I know I can safely say that I think about all of you guys each night as I'm trying to get some rest and how your hard work and resulting support has helped us to accomplish so much with the project even to this point. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you and there's nothing you can ever do to make us stop thanking you! Thank you! See, I did it again.
I'll probably begin my regular tumblr posting over the coming weekend, but I'll leave you with this guy. His name is Spinston. He has a penchant for capturing helpless Citizens and holding them for a king's ransom worth of ice cream, :).

Remember to start following addogames.com (tumblr blog you can subscribe to) or our Facebook page for our coming regular updates. I don't want to keep blasting people's inboxes with Kickstarter updates about the game unless it's really big news.
Take care and have a great rest of your week,
Burton :) -

Hey Michael, about 4 weeks! Thanks for the patience. Working flat out. Unfortunately we're only a few people and we still have to chase dollar bills around for rent and stuff. But we're making the most of it and still prepping to knock socks off in less than a month! Take care!

Here you go Eliot. I exported this playlist from iTunes and you can import it back into iTunes by going to File->Library->Import Playlist. If you don't happen to use iTunes and have trouble gleaning the server information from that file, please let me know. I have to go in and prune that playlist every now and then because servers change addresses or come and go. http://files.addogames.com/misc/Gaming_Radio.xml Have a great one! Burton

Posted project update #16Thanksgiving and an update
Hello everybody,
Since today is Thanksgiving day here in the United States, we at Addo Games wanted to take the opportunity to reach out and say how thankful we are for your support. While we're at it, we also have an update on Robots Love Ice Cream.
Even though most of our progress has been behind the scenes, we've been hard at work on both the game and the Kickstarter rewards. We'll be sending out surveys for mailing addresses and T-shirt sizes this coming week to help us fulfill your rewards.
Physical rewards will be shipped soon, depending on the level at which you backed--right now we've got awesome vinyl stickers and postcards ready to go, posters at the printer, and T-shirts in vendor selection. Digital items like the soundtrack and wallpaper pack will be released when the game launches. If there's a rewards item you liked that wasn't in your pledge pack, we'll also have a few things available for purchase online later this year.
Without your help, this endeavor wouldn't be possible and we owe you our profound thanks. We've set a high bar for this game and we are looking forward to giving you a glimpse in the next month or so. Development has ramped up more slowly than we would have liked because of the usual indie developer challenges, but trust us, we're as impatient as you are for the release of Robots Love Ice Cream, and we're as determined as ever to make our game something truly memorable and special. As of right now, the plan is to get the game onto your iPads in April 2012.
In the spirit of the holiday, here are a few things we're thankful for:
- The incredibly talented creative people who are contributing to our project
- Fresh ground/brewed coffee and our ancient-but-irreplaceable Starbucks coffee maker
- Online supplier coupon codes
- Skype
- Rooster cookies
- Tools like Smartsheet and Evernote that help us keep our heads on straight
- Sincere words of encouragement from friends and family
- The Unity community
- Internet radio (especially the game music channels)
- Fellini's Pizza - site of creative/strategy summits
- The opportunity to pursue our dream and have all you amazing people volunteer to come along for the ride
Again, thank you for supporting and loving Robots Love Ice Cream. Keep your eyes peeled for backer surveys this week, and have a wonderful weekend!
Burton and Becca

This is great news! I'm so looking forward to hearing this album. I was 16 when I moved to Atlanta and the Vulture album was here waiting to greet me, with (I think) both "Something Will Come" and "Diana" getting regular play on 99x. Thanks for letting us be a part of helping you get this album finished. Take care.

Hey Jeremy, we've been hard at work on the game and figuring out the best ways to move forward. We've had a few obstacles/setbacks, but all in all we've been moving forward rather nicely. I've been tossing around some sort of transition for updates from this site to perhaps just our blog our facebook page. I don't want to spam people via email every time we've got something to say and Kickstarter sends an email to all backers, which I think is a bit heavy handed for how we'd like to communicate to everyone. Thanks for checking in. We'll be sure to share some new stuff as soon as we've got something we feel is deserving of being shared with everyone.

Thanks for the update! Any specific recommendations on those game music radio channels? Could use some new coding soundtracks.
