Posted project update #173 Day Film Challenge
Post CommentTonight we just launched our 3 Day Film Challenge, a 72 hour shot at making a high quality short film and deliver it completed three days later. We have 15 teams competing, that are out there writing, shooting and making the most of the time they have.
While they do that, we will field questions (lots of phone calls), do a little hand holding and keep the answers flowing to the challengers as they craft their mini-epics.
We shot a brief primer yesterday on what to do and I thought it would be great to share with our friends and backers here, if you want to see more and stay up to date on the challenge, be sure to check out more at www.3dayfilmchallenge.com.
Cheers!

Posted project update #14Hope you had a great Memorial Day!
Post CommentIn keeping with the belief that backers want to see what we can do, I present a little trailer for a film called The Last Job, another project that we are working on here at Emerging Artist Productions, written by David Hoekenga and starring Derrick O'Connor (Daredevil, End of Days, Lethal Weapon 2).
Cheers!

Posted project update #13Workshops, filmmaking process and STATIC
Post CommentMoving forward we will be continuing our filmmaking workshops, in which we will discuss different aspects of film - ways to make better sound, picture and overall quality choices.
This past Wed, Phil Turner of E.S.P. Audio ( http://espaudio.webs.com/ ) and I conducted a seminar/workshop on production sound. We discussed some of the pitfalls, some of the things to consider when making a film and even more importantly how (if you do it correctly) sound can make a tremendous impact on your project. For those of you that might be interested in the behind the scenes aspects of film, these workshops may be a bit dry for you - but I am truly hoping that it shows a reason and rationale, or at least a glimpse behind my determination in getting STATIC completed. I love film, making movies and finding new ways to entertain.
So if you know anyone that might be interested, we will begin to post up sections from the sound workshop and others on our official website, starting June 4th (special thanks goes out to John for his assist). Please let your filmmaker friends know, come by and visit the website which will have more info on our project (we are still hoping to launch our new site on June 1st) and I hope this is a wonderful beginning of your holiday weekend.
Until tomorrow....

Posted project update #11Meeting New Filmmakers
Post CommentSo one of the other things that I do is work with new filmmakers by conducting workshops, seminars and hands on instruction. Turns out that there are quite a few people out there interested in learning more about digital filmmaking and digital cinema in general.
Last November I started a Meetup group and to date we have produced many different spots, some for business owners (promotional spots and commercials) and some narrative short film and even some branded entertainment spots like the one found here:
http://georgeandclara.weebly.com/index.html
We hope to be able to bring on board as many filmmakers that want to join us for Static - and I am sure that many of them will come from our digital filmmaking group, more info on that can be found here:
http://www.meetup.com/Emerging-Artists-San-Jose-Digital-Filmmaking-Group/
In any event I am glad to be able to support others while I work on my own projects - but honestly I get more out of helping them, so it is definitely a win/win.
Cheers.

Posted project update #10Working with other filmmakers.
Post CommentOne of the things that I truly enjoy is working and collaborating with other filmmakers.
Sometimes that comes in the form of finding ways for people to get the content they create screened and seen by a bigger audience, as a matter of fact I co-founded the San Jose Short Film Festival (http://www.sjshortfest.com/) which is coming up on it's second annual screenings later this year, just for that reason.
One of the other things that I enjoy is one, two-day and weekly film challenges where teams get together and create a film in an incredibly short period of time, just to prove that they can - I have led teams multiple times and find it to be an amazingly stressful, wonderful experience.
Hence I created the 3 Day Film Challenge, which we have launched this year, with screenings at a local theater here in the Cupertino area (http://www.bluelightcinemas.com/) where teams of filmmakers will work together to craft a short film in just 3 days, less than a week later they will be judged in many categories with screenings with friends and family and one team will walk away with an Apple iPad plus other prizes.
Check out a short promo we created just to highlight the festival and if you are in the SJ area, please come by June 19th at 7pm & 9pm to check out the films.
