Posted project update #14“Selene’s Hollywood Confidential” launches February 22nd!
Post CommentI’m going to cry if one more person says to me, “Girl, you need your own TV show.” I’m forever grateful that anyone would want to see my mug on their movin’ picture box, but it takes a lot of work to convince networks to take a chance on my big ideas. My incredibly badass management team and I have gone beyond the scope of traditional showbiz methods to make things happen. Persuading TV networks to let you put up a show can be a cryptic and daunting experience, but I’m not ready to throw in the towel, because I passionately love what I do.
In August of last year, after another frustrating meeting with TV execs, my manager Keri says to me, “Why don’t you produce your own show?” I replied, “Wait. Whaaaaaa?” Producing a TV show costs a pretty penny and my meager pennies ain’t cute. That’s when she suggested I consider raising production funds on Kickstarter, an online pledge system for funding creative projects. After a year and some months of tap-dancing for TV networks with little success, Kickstarter seemed like the next logical step. I teamed up with veteran producer Lorene Machado and set off to do it myself by way of Kickstarter, the independent artist’s BFF!
I had some apprehensions about using Kickstarter to fund my three-part online Reality series: A) It’s not glamorous. B) I felt like a chump asking people for money. C) I was horrified by the possibility of public failure should my fundraising goal not be reached.
To move forward with the plan, this old-school vaudevillian had to wrap her head around the current fan-financed culture taking over the entertainment industry. Fan-financing is nothing new to the music world. Over the last decade the music industry has been turned on its head. Many musicians are foregoing debt and waiting for label commitment, by creatively tapping into crowd-funding to produce their albums. It works for artists in the music industry, so why not me? In addition, I’ve come to realize there’s something refreshing about fans having a direct say in the art they support. If you think about it, fan-financing is no different than asking friends, family and fans to buy an album, a ticket, a download or a book once the work is finished – the only difference is that you ask them to support it up front, at whatever contribution level they want, and they get to literally be a part of the process! I’m a people pleaser, so why not see if what I want to create is what people want to financially support?
After a lot of hard work and the generous support of fans and friends, I was able to meet my Kickstarter goal by September 21, 2010. I was blown away by the enthusiasm from friends and fans about my little show. I was even contacted by the LA Times, who wanted to run a piece on the rising popularity of crowd-funding. Check it out!
http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-et-kickstarter-20101019,0,4927957.storyMeeting my funding goal allowed me to hire a professional television production crew and made my dream show a reality! By November we had the entire mini-series shot and in post-production. We had a few set-backs before the holidays, but now I’m happy to say we have all three episodes in the can and are getting ready for launch on February 22nd!
As with any self-release, this project needs word of mouth to help get it out there. If you like what you see, tell your friends to watch the premiere of “Selene’s Hollywood Confidential”. Your comments, “likes,” tweets, texts, pings, favorites, recommends and forwards are ALL appreciated.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ON-GOING SUPPORT & PATIENCE.

Posted project update #132011 UPDATE!
Post CommentHey Guys, just a brief update to let you know what’s going with my Kickstarter project, Selene’s Hollywood Confidential.
We’re in the final editing stages for all three episodes. Meeting my funding goal via Kickstarter allowed me to hire a professional television production crew, which was priceless; however, our budget was tapped-out before we could even start post-production. Things are moving a bit slower than anticipated but we are SUPER fortunate to have a topnotch post-production crew volunteering their time to help us finish and launch Selene’s Hollywood Confidential.
I will be posting an updated launch date within the next two weeks. I cannot say thank you enough for your patience and on-going support.
Here’s a little teaser image of Paris, 6-year-old fashion blogger, and me on-stage. I can’t wait for the world to meet Paris in episode 3, this ‘lil darling will steal your heart!
With love & appreciation,
