Thanks for all the enthusiasm, kind words, and fun ideas. And thanks for making The Monster Book happen! I will begin creating new monsters next month. One a week. The book should be out in six months, give or take.

If you tell a friend about The Monster Book, and your friend pledges $10+, I'll give you any Monster Print Reproduction you want.
(Just send me a message on Kickstarter saying, "hey, I just signed up my friend, Francis Merrypants*, could you send me an extra print of Fizz*?")

commented on a projectHi Charyn, I'm excited to support your project, great work! Your rewards worked out perfectly for me: my dad used to farm in Waltham and still lives in the area, so the beer will go to him; my brother lives in Seattle, so the Experience Music Project tickets will go his way. I found your project on Twitter (I'm EatFreshVT) while poking around for all things Kickstarter. Check out my Kickstarter project if you want: www.kickstarter.com/projects/MonsterBook/the-monster-book. Good luck! Chris Howell Burlington, VT

Posted project update #2How the Lino Block Prints Are Made
This handy video demonstrates the basic process by which each each monster is born:
1. Think up a monster.
2. Draw the monster backwards on a linoleum block.
3. Carve the block.
4. Ink the block.
5. Print on nice paper.
6. Ponder the monster, think of a story.
7. Type the story on the paper next to the monster.

Posted project update #1Crickets in the video.
You may have noticed the chirping of crickets in the intro video.
If you were wondering, the crickets are in fact real, live crickets. They live in terrariums with two geckos, a tarantula, and a fat orange frog in the autobody shop next to Sarah's Steelworks (and occasionally my print studio).
Despite shared quarters with the same creatures that will one day eat them, the crickets carry on chirping. Even on the coldest of nights, it's like summer in the shop.
This interesting space is also the birthplace of the Monster Book:
In an old industrial complex in the South End of Burlington, VT lives/
Mike's autobody shop (and terrariums) in a converted garage in the old industrial complex, which houses/
Sarah's welding studio in back of Mike's autobody shop, where there is/
A tiny print studio by the sofa in Sarah's welding studio
