Posted project update #12New Year's Projection
Post CommentA beautiful Christmas spirit came and went around our place, We celebrated with family and friends. It was the best Christmas we've had here at Poet's Rest in several years. Sometimes normal and quiet is totally cool.
Alas! My c.d. did not get into your Christmas stockings, though.
My engineer had to move all his equipment to another studio site which set us back a couple of weeks. So, I decided that if we could not make the Christmas deadline, I would not rush things, and allow time to work to our advantage.
I've now added two additional songs to the c.d. My own version of the hymn, My Hope is Built (Solid Rock), and another acoustic number, Kings Above were recorded last month. Both of these numbers will be finished shortly. And, the mastering is in progress.
I'm hoping to sneek one more number into this theme collection, called "Home Sweet Home" before we call it finished. So, the new deadline for you'll to expect this c.d. in the mail is Leap Day!

Posted project update #10Naomi's Ragtime Review
Post CommentWhereas the last song posted is minimalistic, this song is a ballad, and full of happiness. In all my life, I've never known anyone to write or sing about Naomi, so I figure she deserves the attention. This is the first mix of the song, but I'm already loving it.

Posted project update #9Meet Me
This is my little ethereal one chord number. I intentionally limited myself in words as well as chords to see what happened. It blew me away that the music developed a life of its own.
So much of my spiritual meditation surrounds my own needs and feelings, but I had been living in the sh*t hole for over a year, crashing like a bull into the manure, wallowing like a pig unable to find my footing, and very nearly going ballistic.I found that my God wasn't above living there with me. This blew me away to be able to experience him so intimately where no-one else dared go with me. I began meditating on what motivated this God. I wondered how he feels towards not only me but everyone else who finds themselves stuck at the back of the black water, haunted by old landmarks, or protecting ourselves with senseless silly highs full of selfishness.
I realized he was already waiting for me anywhere I traveled. That at any moment I called on him, he was putting on his traveling shoes to join me right there. He didn't care about the sh*t I was in. He only cares about me, sharing himself with me in the middle of it. When I asked him why he was so careless about his reputation, he reminded me that he had none left to protect. He had already surrendered his life to the worst that can be found on this earth.
A favorite composer of mine is T-Bone Burnette, see: http://www.youtube.com/watch..., or http://www.youtube.com/watch... and there is a soul group he produced that I love to listen to, so I tried out these words to that vibe. Asked Demetrios to add a T-Bone style guitar to it, and then D. added another guitar in his own favorite guitarist's songwriter's style... ala Jason Becker... whose story makes we weep, see www.jasonbeckerguitar.com/index.html

Heard back from enough of you that the vocals need to be louder, guitars softer, vocals more compressed, and a couple people who love it so much the way it is, cannot stop listening! Thank you for your interest everyone.

Okay, I've updated this post with a second mix of Meet Me...let me know if you cannot hear some of the words or have issues with the sound.

Cool. A very different sound for you. Good for you for giving yourself some parameters to make yourself even more creative! What a great exercise and result!

Cool! Fun to hear the final! It is very YOU—eclectic and jazzy!
