Posted project update #23A Final update in case anyone was missed + NEW VIDEO
Post CommentHi Friends,
Hope this finds you happy and well.
At this point everyone's pledge packages have been fulfilled. If for some reason you didn't receive what you ordered, please let me know.
Though we have already sent out the download of each song periodically as they were recorded over last year and this one, I wanted to go ahead and send a link to ALL the files in one place. Here's the link to download the entire Kickstarter record in one place: http://www.mediafire.com/?bizqrdn2tf5fgc6. Thank you again for being a part of this progressive new way of making music. The past year has been so inspired and kinetic.
As was my intention, the Kickstarter project served as an incredible productive time to pre-produce and conceptualize the next fully produced, professional release record. I'm happy to say that we have already recorded this new record and are in the final stages of mixing and mastering right now. We have a gifted cast of music people on board, who collectively have made this record turn out to be, hands down, the best music I've created to date. Can't even begin to tell you how proud I am of this next record. Please take a moment to learn more about this record at http://kdrecord.moonfruit.com.
We're again offering all sorts of interesting pledge packages to folks who wish to be a part of seeing this project to completion. All pledgers will receive a limited edition pre-release signed copy of the new record, before it's available to the general public. It goes up from there to include things like a copy of the record on vinyl, an invite to the private release party & concert in New Orleans, a house concert at your place (anywhere in the country), Executive Producer credit and more. Find out more and make a pledge at http://kdrecord.moonfruit.com.
Here's a behind the scenes preview of making the new record. This is a brand new track called "Quittin' Kind." Love to know your thoughts.
Thanks so much for your ongoing support. Means the world.
xx

Posted project update #19New Song: "Serpents & Saviors"
Post CommentGreetings Friends,
Hope this finds you happy and well.
Wanted to share my current progress with the songs in the works right now.
This one song, "Serpents & Saviors," has been quite a doozy and it's finally shaping up to sound how I'd like for it to sound.I wrote this song on guitar, but decided to strip away my comfort zone of recording from the same perspective I wrote from. Instead, I heard a rhythm for the song, and started the production process building around a stomp, clap, snap and pitter patter tracked from feet on wood floors and hand shuffles on blue jeans.
From there I added electronic elements to accent and provide some contrast.
I've never really used synths in my music and felt that this was the perfect opportunity to attempt painting with a different brush. The process of refining and fully developing a raw idea can be grueling. Inspiration has been elusive in the past month and today I decided to consider other formats of art to help push the this song's process along.
There is a film director from the 40's who's work blows me away (can't tell you his name yet or it would give away the surprise). I plan to use his work for the final video for this song. Now, the song still isn't QUITE finished, but I wanted to go ahead and get it out to you guys in some format.
Rather than make the video I have in mind to a song that will still be tweaked, I made a video that is somewhat of a preview of what the final video will be for the song. Surprises to come.
As with all these tunes, it's tragic to have to condense the sounds into a tiny little file that plays through computer speakers....alot of the instruments don't come through properly listening this way. So, if you have headphones and/or a good stereo to run this through, I recommend listening that way.
Would love to hear your feedback.
Cheers,
Kristin -

Posted project update #18"True & Natural Man" Acoustic & Grammys
Post CommentHi Lovelies....
Wanted to get this to you.... it's a straight one-take acoustic of one of the Kickstarter songs I'm working on called "True & Natural Man." The final version of this song is being worked on and has plenty of layers, vocals, harmonies, piano and more to really flesh out how the song should be heard. I thought it'd be cool to give you guys a totally raw version of the song to see how a song starts out. More of a glimpse in to the whole process from writing to the actual production and exploration of the song's many dressings.
Download here: http://www.mediafire.com/...
Friday I'll be going in the studio with my pal Eric Heigle to pull up a track from the past that is all new again. Going to track some vocals, make a mix, and see how it turns out.
Been keeping busy here in New Orleans hosting The New Orleans Speakeasy Songwriters Revue series and mapping out the rest of the year. We've also been invited back to perform at The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival May 1st! Had such an amazing time performing last year, can't wait to give it a go in 2011.
In a few weeks we'll be going to Los Angeles to attend the Grammy Awards. Pretty excited about that adventure. Trying to wrap up some new tracks before then so I can have them handy in case we bump in to ... say... P Diddy.... or something....
Actually, I can bring a pair of guests with me to the awards. Was thinking of coming up with some special "add on" package to offer that to you guys, but not sure what the interest might be. So, if you want to come to the Grammys with my man & I, email me: kristin@kristindiable.com.
More soon.
Love,

Posted project update #17You saw it here first: "Be My Husband" Video Premier!
Happy 2011 Friends!
I've been chopping away in the studio. Learning the landscape of electronic song and how to engineer and produce the fancies I hear from the heavens. It's tedious, but I'm making progress. And I thank 'yall for giving me the opportunity to do so.
Now, as I promised, as an extra thank you for your support, I am giving you guys the WORLD PREMIER of the new music video for "Be My Husband." I was blessed by a team of creative friends here in New Orleans, who made this whole thing happen. Big thanks to Miss Ashley Ebanks who produced the video and Nathan Tape who directed it.
To sweeten the pot, I'm going to give you guys some more lagniappe (for those of you who don't speak colloquial "Louisiana".... lagniappe means "a little something extra"). To pair with the release of this video, I'm giving you guys a download of the first demo I ever made of "Be My Husband." This demo was never released, so it's something special from the archives. The track of the song thats on the Extended Play record, and that this new music video, is a live recording from a show in Austin, Texas. So, this older studio recorded demo version gives you an idea of just how different a song can sound with a little multi-tracking. Which do you prefer?
Here's the download link: http://www.mediafire.com/file/lf3cm7bi86d47hl/02%20Kristin%20Diable%20-%20Be%20My%20Husband%20-%20demo%20rough.mp3
More soon.
Cheers,
kd

Posted project update #16Happy Holidays to you and yours!
Post CommentHi Friends,
Hope this finds you recovering well from the post-holiday haze. Wanted to wish you all a wonderful season and send you a big cheers for an inspired 2011.
I have been chopping away at these new songs and have decided to start "deconstructing" and "reconstructing" the songs and how they are arranged. What I mean by this is, completely rethinking the way I usually approach a song to record it. Instead of basing the recording off of the original guitar part it was written around, I'm basing the song off of the rhythm I heard to go with it. In the latest song I've been tracking, it was created by recording a stomp n/ clap rhythm, then a synth piano part (with just rhythmic root notes) and a main vocal take. That's it. From there, I've been working on adding more instruments around it, but most of the instrument layers I've tried... while they sound good, they just don't seem to fit the landscape of the song any more. It's amazing how an idea can evolve depending on how you dress it (or in this case, undress it). It's been an inspired learning process. Slow and steady. I'll have a new track uploaded to you guys soon.
Most of these new songs are turning out to be slow burners. I'm doing my best to give them the space and time they need to breathe and unfold. In an attempt to keep all new songs at the top of my brain waves, I put up a new colored song board in the studio (see photo). It's easy to loose track of ideas when you start a few songs a day and I'm hoping this helps keeps the "best of" new songs in perspective.
Also, we just saw the first cut of the music video for "Be My Husband." All black & white and shot with a cast and crew of New Orleans' finest talents. As an extra "Thank You" for your support, I will release the video to you guys first before posting it to the website, youtube, etc. Hope to have the final cut in the next few days. What a way to bring in the new year. Can't wait to share it with you guys.
Hope your holiday season has been filled with love and laughter. Much love to you all.
Cheers,
