Post CommentGreat news! We’ve just received a matching pledge for our new BECA ICAD campaign. Each dollar will be matched if we’re successful in reaching this $10,000 giving us a total of $20,000. We’re thrilled but we need your help – please give as generously as you can and please spread the word about this campaign as far and wide as possible. http://www.indiegogo.com/BECA-ICAD-International-Center-for-Art-and-Design

Posted project update #6new BECA ICAD update to share
The BECA Foundation is very happy to announce that the future BECA ICAD (International Center for Art + Design) has now been narrowed from 5 to 3 locations and we anticipate announcing the final location for the new exhibition facility this March 2011, less than 3 months from today. It feels as if we've climbed a mountain just to get to this point but we're almost there. We've been busy planning, coordinating and collaborating on new international public arts programming for emerging creative producers that takes full advantage of such a new large scale exhibition facility (currently between 50,000 - 100,000 sq ft depending on which final location is selected).
We're creating a special collaboration with founding supporters at: http://www.becaicad.org/founders-wall.php The link is being provided to previous backers, friends and former BECA exhibiting and pARTicipating artists, architects + designers in advance. An announcement to the general public will be made after January 8, 2011.
Thank you for keeping faith in us during this journey + Happy Holidays!,

Posted project update #54 days to go
Post CommentDear Generous Backers,
We have only 4 days to go and unfortunately it appears that our goals have been a bit too ambitious for this format and it does not appear that we will reach our goal of raising $300K right now. We greatly appreciate your support and belief in this project and we are vowing to you to take the next step by re-evaluating our projections and adjust accordingly. We are committed to fulfilling this project's goals as long as we have both the volunteer and financial support necessary to bring it to fruition. In lieu of your support here, we have launched a BECA Foundation - Founding Member program at: http://www.becaicad.org/membership.php We would appreciate your consideration in becoming a Founding Member.
Many of you may be aware of the multi-layer disaster unfolding down here in the Gulf Coast and as a result, lives have been lost, livelihoods have been halted, hundreds of thousands of lives have been disrupted and hundreds of people in the New Orleans area are experiencing adverse health effects from the oil and/or the toxic dispersants being applied by air and underwater. Much of what is happening at the local level is not reaching your TV screens. We thank Anderson Cooper and CNN for keeping it as real as possible. To avoid continued risk to our health, we have decided to relocate (at least temporarily) our offices outside of New Orleans and outside the air flow currents which have been carrying in the toxins for weeks since the oil rig first exploded and the first dispersants began being dispersed. Once we have further information for you, we will post here or you may reach us in the meantime at mail@thebecafoundation.org Our current CURATE THIS! 2010 project at: http://www.CurateThis.org will not be affected by our relocation.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Melissa Roberts and Kurt Schlough

Posted project update #4BECA ICAD update 4/15/10
Post CommentGood morning greetings from New Orleans!
We wanted to send you a quick update regarding our progress on the BECA ICAD front both here @ Kickstarter as well as here in NOLA…We continue to receive new backers for our Kickstarter project along with additional in-kind pledges. Thank each of you again for your support and generosity. We have also begun receiving interest from volunteers (people power, yes!) from various parts of the United States who want to help make BECA ICAD a reality. Since there is much to do both here in NOLA and away, we welcome all volunteer interest, no matter where you may be located. The world is a much smaller place and technology has given us opportunities to work together across cities, countries and continents like never before.
We have begun a fun and mutually beneficial art print project for both artists/designers and the BECA ICAD project at: http://www.facebook.com/pages/BECA-ICAD/107654275939717 Artists + designers upload their works for review. We select any number of works and work with the artists + designers to begin producing screenprints on paper of the original designs which we will be offering for sale to the public in the near future at some of the most affordable prices on the planet (a very important factor in today’s economy) T-shirts of those or similar designs will likely follow shortly thereafter. It’s a great fundraiser for the BECA ICAD project and artists + designers receive competitive licensing fees for the limited use of their art + design. Best of all, it’s free for the artists + designers to upload their work for review and the online process is an efficient way for us to make it happen without expending a large amount of resources.
We wish you all a great week/end and thank you for supporting new art + new design + new ideas!
Our best,
Melissa + Kurt--

Posted project update #3exciting news + new reward category
Post CommentHi everyone,
We had an exciting weekend! We've received news of a private pledge that could cover a significant portion of the remainder of the BECA ICAD development costs beyond our Kickstarter project goal of $300,000, if we reach our project goal here of $300,000. This generous supporter is known for his support of international projects that foster community between diverse cultures. Our goal of creating the world's first large scale exhibition facility featuring new art + new design + new ideas by both emerging artists + emerging designers from around the world has caught his interest. As a result of this new challenge and opportunity put forth, we have created another reward category at the $55 level:
PLEDGE $55 OR MORE:
Open to all artists or designers working in any discipline or medium residing in any country. One of your works of art or design will be selected for placement in the BECA ICAD grand opening exhibition series. (The most practical show of support we can offer to those artists + designers who are supporting this development.)This is a major development for the BECA ICAD project and we hope you will help us to spread the word of this new reward level far and wide to help us reach our $300,000 goal. Kickstarter requires us to reach the full goal of $300,000 or this project receives $0.
Thank you ever so much!,

Posted project update #2Great progress along with a use of space offer!
Post CommentHappy Tuesday everyone!
Just a quick progress report for our generous backers...pledge$ are coming in and so are the in-kind offerings. We've just received an offer from a generous property owner of temporary use of a medium sized space while we work toward our primary goal of raising funds and building the 50,000 sq ft large scale exhibition facility. This offering could be a great 1st phase development for BECA ICAD. We should have more information to share within the next 2 weeks.
Have a great week and thank you for your support + help with spreading the word about the BECA ICAD project!
Our best regards,
Melissa + Kurt

Posted project update #1special thanks to our first BECA ICAD Kickstarter project backers
Post CommentWe're off to a great start and thanks for everyone's help in spreading the word about our Kickstarter project via email and via the facebook, twitter, you tube, etc. tabs near the top of our Kickstarter page and throughout your own networks. As a result of your help in spreading the word, we were recently contacted with an in-kind construction materials donation to receive at the end of our pledge drive here. It doesn't count toward our Kickstarter totals but every little bit helps and is most welcomed.
We have a long road ahead but we're committed to seeing it through and creating this large scale exhibition facility for both emerging artists AND emerging designers to exhibit their works. THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING NEW ART + NEW DESIGN + NEW IDEAS!
With warm regards,
Melissa + Kurt-----
