    THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!!!

Dear Friends and Fabulous Backers of *Isaac Newton is Our DJ*:

Well, we did it. Isaac Newton was our DJ, and what a great DJ he was. Our amazing publicist, Vlad Nicholae, had gotten us a great space at MOCT Bar in Milwaukee for the big day . James Carleson and Bucketworks gave us excellent rehearsal space and a wonderful test audience for the week before the show. Branden Byers, who along with Tara Smith made up our design team extraordinaire, trekked over from Madison to get three hours of sleep a night on our floor and the rest of the time rig our pseudo Garden of Eden (which included an enormous papier-mache apple he built along with Hinterlands ensemble members Deepal Doshi and Norah Sadava). Our stagehand crew, consisting of Deepal, Norah, A-E Shapera and Josh Perkins, not only danced up a storm but also realized a ridiculous puppet show, hilarious fight sequence, and raucus cheerleading section in just days. Mick Polcyznski showed up to be our intimidating door man and ended up carting me around on his shoulders during one of the public experiments.

We danced! We drank! We crowd-surfed! We fell! We ate cake! And the audience had a great time with us.

(Check out the photos that James took of the piece at http://www.flickr.com/photos/jamescarlson/sets/72157623181660930 )

So...thank you. Thank you for letting us hold this most excellent, absurd, and insane of parties. We could not have done it without you. REALLY. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

If you couldn't come out, you missed a great party. But don't worry--both The Hinterlands and *(con)temporary works exchange* promise more great parties to come.

    Until that time--lots of love,

    Liza, Richard, and Brian

    The time is nigh!

Yep, the time is almost here: there are just five days left to donate Isaac Newton is Our DJ, so encourage your friends, lovers, co-workers, and collaborators to jump on this opportunity to support to this exciting performance/party/science extravaganza on Kickstarter.

Finally, finally, after four months, we are full-force and in Milwaukee (brrr). We have a great rehearsal space, thanks to Milwaukee’s Bucketworks, and an awesome performance venue—Moct (240 East Pittsburgh Avenue). For those of you in and around the Milwaukee area, we would love to see you at the show, which will be THIS SATURDAY, January 9th, at 8 PM. Please drop us a line— thehinterlandsmilwaukee@gmail.com —or give us a call—414.208.4237 to let us know if you'll be coming. Space is limited, so reservations are necessary.

And, one more time, we’d like to express our gratitude for your generosity and support throughout this process. Without you, this project would not have been possible.

Hope your 2010 is off to an exciting start. Ours most definitely has been.

    See you at the show!
    Liza

WHAA?? January 9th, 2010 is fast approaching!!

    Hello Supporters!

I write to you just days after Sir Isaac Newton’s birthday with continued words of gratitude for your donation to *Isaac Newton is Our DJ*. We just finished up a roller coaster week in Chicago where we finally got to spend some quality time with one of our designers, Tara Smith, to flesh out concepts that had previously only been brewing in our racquetball court rehearsal space. Miracle of miracles, we got a great deal on an overhead projector, built our shadow puppets, experimented with some rigging, and assembled a musical lineup that will keep our audience dancing long after the birthday candles will have been blown out. We had a minor setback with an injury in the cast--on the path to recovery--but made some great progress in fleshing out what will prove to be a bizarre and fantastic party/performance/science and love extravaganza. Brian's probably already loading up the van for a move to Milwaukee early next week and Richard and I will join him in The Hinterland's new Midwestern home December 31.

Mark your calendar--*Isaac Newton is Our DJ* opens on January 9th at Moct Bar in Milwaukee. The piece starts at 8 PM. Space is limited so make sure you or your Milwaukee-based friends make a reservation-- TheHinterlandsMilwaukee@gmail.com or 414.208.4237.

Again, thanks for your love and support. Your financial donation has made this piece possible. Thanks, also, to those of you who brought your friends into the donor circle. We have met our initial goal! However, this is the bare minimum budget necessary for the production; we would like to be able to pay our artists a decent wage for their efforts on this piece, so any additional financial support that would allow us to do that is really, really appreciated. Feel free to forward us along to any friends, enemies, or strangers who might be interested in the project.

Questions? Comments? Need reservations? Let us know!

Happy New Year, and we hope to see you in Milwaukee!

    Love,

    Liza, Brian, and Richard
