Posted project update #11Do It Again screenings
So I'm sorry for the radio silence.
I wish I could explain, in 50 words, how challenging it has been to deal with the creative and business aspects of getting a film finished. But why bore everybody? We have great news...
“Do It Again,” about my (perhaps) irrational quest to reunite the Kinks, will be making its world premiere at the Rotterdam International Film Festival on Jan. 28. The film of my journey includes testimonies and music from Sting, Zooey Deschanel, Paul Weller, Robyn Hitchcock, Clive Davis, Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey, Warren Zanes and… Kinks fans everywhere...
The film will also be playing in Rotterdam on January 30 and 31 at the festival. Here are the specific dates and theaters:
01/28/2010 19:15 Pathé 5
01/30/2010 13:00 Pathé 1
01/31/2010 09:45 Cinerama 7You can start ordering tickets online on 22nd of January through the website of the film festival: www.iffr.nl
Even if you can’t see the film in Rotterdam, we’ve already been invited to show the film at other festivals, including the Glasgow Film Festival (screening Feb. 21) and in my hometown in April at the Boston Independent Film Festival.
The best thing about the Boston screening: The theater serves beer!
Feel free to get in touch with any questions and I do hope to see some you at a screening.

commented on a projectSo we've been stuck in the editing room trying to get our cut together. But I'm emerging on Wednesday for an appearance on WMBR, 88.1 with Christopher Vyce. From noon until 1, we'll play Kinks and Kinks-related tunes and talk up the movie. The site streams so go to: http://wmbr.mit.edu/

Posted project update #10Film Festival!
So the good news is... "Do It Again" has been accepted into its first film festival. The bad news is I can't say where or when yet. (I can promise you it is *not* Sundance.) It's a great festival, though, and one we'll be proud to have our international premiere at...
That means we have to get back into the editing room and rework some sections of the film, do a proper sound mix and prepare all the publicity items - posters, postcards, website - that come with launching a film.
Thanks for all of our support. And we'll hopefully be able to keep updating you throughout the rest of the year.

Posted project update #9Death of You Tube clip
A sign of progress disguised as a disappearance. The clip still up on this site - though perhaps not for long - has been yanked off You Tube. We obliged after being asked to by Sony, which holds the licensing on many of the Kinks songs we're looking to use in the film. (We could have paid the five grand to license a preview, but I figured that clip has done its job, is super old and that you all would prefer we put out cash toward getting closer to getting the movie out. The good news: The licensing process has begun.
For anybody who has ever dealt with this aspect of the business - the waiting, the nagging, the paying - that's ALSO the bad news.

Posted project update #8Backers, Seek Ye Rewards
First, another thanks for helping me meet my goal.
Now, the fun part. If you gave at a certain level, you will receive the gift specified. If it's a children's book, let me know 1. which you'd like (Elvis or the Beatles) and 2. the name of the child you want me to sign it to and 3. your mailing address. Our posters aren't ready yet but they're coming along and I'm also holding off on our surprise gift, as I haven't finished it.
But do write. Geoff

Posted project update #7Thanks...
You all have been so generous and kind to contribute to the project. I can't tell you how much it has meant. Today, I sent out the first slew of film festival applications. Sundance is on there. Maybe I'm out of my mind, but we'll see if we have a chance in Park City.
I'll continue updating as news comes in. But for now, I'm going to get to the reams of paperwork and (gasp) a story I need to do for my regular job.
