I was born in Saudi Arabia and grew up in Yemen. As you may know these are very conservative societies. While some women are allowed to work, being female photojournalist is practically unheard of. I have had to fight all my life for my education and ... view more

Please Donate Alex to be in Yemen

Dear friends, last March I met this 22 years old amazing American photographer her name is Alex who come by herself all the way from America to Yemen to cover the Yemeni revolution, I never met a brave young female photographer like her, she moved all times by herself from one governorate  to another in Yemen no matter how situation was not safe and dangerous but she is so brave and amazing and I loved what she has done in Yemen, and now she is launching a kickstarter campaign to return to Yemen and photograph the transition period. Please spread the word for Alex to be here in Yemen again and enjoyed her photos in kickstarter.  Love and Light A

A documentary about Muslim exchange Students

    Dear Kickstarter People,

Here is an amazing project that I wish I could be part of, the project will help reduce social distance between Christians and Muslims.

The project is a micro-documentary that reveals a heart-touching friendship between Molly (American) and Anum (Pakistan) as well as the positive and sometimes challenging experiences from four other Muslim exchange students in America (from Palestine, Sierra Leone, & Pakistan).

Would you spare a moment to visit the project's kickstarter website and share the link amongst your friends and contacts via social media and possibly email lists?

Thank you to all amazing people in this world.

    Light to All your Hearts,

    Amira

    Multimedia Piece "Unveiling Misconception"

    Dear Kickstarter People,

Hope my update find all of you in good health, I finished my Multimedia piece “Unveiling Misconception”, and will be uploaded to my website during a week, it is about my experience with the American women I met during this year as well as my experience in a foreign landscape I had come to explore, hope you like it and hope to get your feedback.

I still expect more addresses. Your prints will be send as soon as possible. As I mentioned before this month might be the most hardest part in school as it is the time to present our work in our one year program which needs a lot of editing, printing, post production and all that for preparing for our Career Day in June 29, the day where we are going to meet different editors from different newspapers and magazines to present our work and get their feedback, I am so excited to show them what I did during my year in America.

Thank you for all the wonderful emails I received, they made my day. Wish you a day full of light.

    Light,

    Amira

        Hello Amira,
What email address should I use to send you my address and to let you know which print I would like? I tried hitting "reply," but of course that didn't work. I was a $100 donor and am hoping for the image of the woman taking off her scarf and the wind carrying it ...

        Thank you,

        Hello Amira,

Congratulations on your successful project. From one photographer to another, I'm very happy to support your project.

I'm really loving the picture of yours showing the girl under the pink scarf/material blowing towards the camera. We can only see one eye. I like that picture very much. Are there other pictures in that series that might become available?

Looking forward to seeing your project in an exhibition. I hope you are enjoying your time in New York.

        Sharon

    Faces of Yemen

     Dear Kickstarter People,

Thank you so much for all those who reply, that’s “awesome” as you said here in America. Right now I am at ICP preparing for our final exhibition. I am trying my best to reply to all your emails in person, thank you for all these cute emails.

Thank you for selecting the photos from Yemen, this is an honor for me and for my beloved country. As many of you like the Yemeni photos, I wonder would you like to upload photos from Yemen. Please let me know, I will do that.

I started my year with all of you, having this wonderful experience and now we are together again.

Having your kind support gives me motivation to continue my project, feeling many spirits around me and thinking that there are people in other part believing in me.

I would love to fulfill my promises before I travel to Yemen. Hope to receive your selection and address as soon as possible.

    Light,

    Amira Al-Sharif

Amira, I am so impressed and inspired by your courage and your trail-blazing. You seen to catch both the boldness and the tenderness of women in your photography. Congrats on doing so well while you're in the midst of crush time at school. I looked through all the images in your new website - beautiful! Thank you again for making us a part of your project. I'm looking forward to more as you move on - you are in my good thoughts always.
