Posted project update #7Last Update for a while
Post CommentHi Everyone,
Hopefully everyone has gotten their books by now. I've mailed off all books/posters/ect. I just dropped the last few things in the mail this afternoon, so if your stuff hasn't arrive yet, give it another week or so. If it's not there by then, let me know.
The last thing is the eBooks. Again, not sure how many of you care about this part, but for those who do, you can get free copies by going to https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/66719
At checkout, the coupon code for a free copy is: HC89P
That should work for everyone. The site (Smashwords.com) provides the book file in a lot of different formats for all kinds of eReaders, but I don't think it's compatible with Kindles and iPads...which is probably what most of you own. So, to get around that problem, I will change the official price of the book to 'free' from Jan 1st to Feb. 28th, and that price-change will be reflected on the Amazon store and iTunes during that 2-month timespan. (I'm waiting on this until after the holidays in case some of you get Kindles and iPads for Xmas. :) ) I will send out one more update to remind you when the time comes.
Thanks,
Happy Holidays,
~J-fro

Posted project update #6Everything is in the mail
Hi Everyone,
I stuck the last books in the mail today, and all the posters and whatnot. There was a lot of stuff; if I got something wrong--wrong name, wrong preference--please let me know.
The last thing now will be to get all the eBook coupon codes generated and sent out, but that might take another couple weeks. I'll post an update when that is ready. And, of course, when that is done, the REAL last thing will be to send out every last remaining hard copy to people in the publishing world. I expect that will take me through the end of the year or beyond. If I get any interest sparked out there, which is, after all, the whole point of this, I will be sure to let you all know.
I hope everyone likes the finished product as much as I do. I did not send out thank-you cards with the books because I am super lazy, but I am extremely grateful to all of you. This project would still be sitting on my computer if not for all your generosity.
~Jeff

Posted project update #5Last update, maybe...
Post CommentHello Awesome Supporters of the Greatest Story Every Told,
or something like that.
So, I'm ready to start shipping these babies out. The printing company basically told me there's nothing to be done about the mis-trimmed copies, although they did offer to take the bad ones back, cut off the covers and spines, put on new covers, recut the books a little smaller, etc. Pain in the ass. I thanked them for the offer but declined, and they offered me a discount on my next order, instead. Good enough. Well, it'll have to be. Moving on...
I've contacted everyone about getting addresses for shipping and poster preferences. If you don't get that email, feel free to contact me directly on here or just call me, since most of you know me and see me often enough.
If anyone doesn't really care about getting a poster or an eBook, please let me know. I certainly don't mind sending them, but if you don't really care and think it might just end up getting recycled, it would save me a little time and effort. Thanks.
The eBooks: now that the manuscript is officially in its final, second-edition form, I have to (reformat the entire thing, again) and resubmit the text file to the online publisher. Clearing that should take about a week to ten days, and then I'll email out the relevant websites and coupon-codes. I will do my best to make sure that these will be compatible with iTunes, iPads, Kindles, whatever, but the coupon-code thing is a bit of unexplored territory for me, so please be patient. We'll get it all sorted in the end. (Although I have my doubts how many of you are into the whole eBook thing yet...)
Last thing, if you want anything special written in the book when I sign them, please let me know. Some of you are getting up to 5 copies; if you're giving them away as gifts or whatnot, I'm happy to write in any special messages or names. But keep it clean, people!
For some of you I will probably just drop off the final package in person. If you're coming back to Glen Ellyn for Thanksgiving, I'd be happy to meet you then, but I certainly don't mind shipping to anywhere before that, if you want to get your hands on the book ASAP.
So, I'll start shipping these out this week, as soon as I start hearing back from everyone with address and preferences.
Everyone, thanks again! I couldn't have done this without you, and it means the world to me to see this project completed after 6 years (first edition was 2005!) I hope you like how it all turned out.
I'm 100 pages into writing book 3, so far...

Posted project update #4Eagle has landed.
Post CommentHi Everybody!
7 big boxes just arrived! What a great day not to have a job, and stay home all afternoon reading an awesome book that I've already read 100 times. But finally without a red pen in my hand.
Yup, 260 bright new shiny copies of Riverlilly are finally here!
Of course, there's good news and bad news. Of course.
Good news, the ones that look good, look fantastic. I couldn't be happier how they turned out. I'm sure I'll find one or two typos eventually that were right in front of my nose the whole time, but all in all, I think you'll all think it looks pretty good. How it reads, well...
Bad news, 50% of them are incorrectly trimmed, meaning the front cover art is lopped off a full 1/8 of an inch too low! 1/8 of an inch, can you believe it?! Not happy. Another 30% are acceptable, but again, not happy. Of course, this is a very tiny little margin of error, and most people probably wouldn't even notice, but... yeah. As you'll see, or can see online here, there's a man-made (by yours truly) border inside the front and back covers, black and white lines. Awesome, right? On the bad copies, the top border is cut right off, so the whole border isn't really a border anymore, just a big backwards black and white L. If there was no border, there'd be no problem. Half-border, problem. There's a margin of error you have to roll with for any mass-produced product like this, but this is just a little too far off to me.I don't know how realistic it is to ship back 50-80% of these books and demand perfect replacements, but I'm sure going to try.
But, for now, I've got more than enough copies to start sending out. Give me a few days to talk to the printing company and work out a solution (or get told to screw off) and then I'll send out one final update or mass-email or something to get everyone's current address and 'rewards' preferences. Rewards, sweet!
Okay, I'll try to update one last time this weekend.
Thanks again! Almost done...
Did I mention it looks incredible and it's the best story ever?
~Jeff
(I tried to include a video of me flipping thru the book--really exciting stuff--but it won't upload/encode. Sorry, you'll have to wait.)

Posted project update #3ORDER IN!
Post CommentHey Everybody,
Good news--I just placed the order for the books! Woohoo! Do a little dance! Make a little love! Get down tonight!
I decided to up the ante at the last minute and order 250 books, at a total of $1,402 (instead of 150 for $1,180. Makes sense, right?) Kickstarter and Amazon took a combined $100 cut from the fundage, so I basically just used all the money up in one fell swoop. That doesn't even include shipping yet, or all the extra costs associated with getting the rewards out to y'all, but this way I'll have a bunch more copies on hand that I can distribute, and maybe I'll end up selling a few of those extra 100 to make back the shipping costs I'm going to incur. I was a little worried about having enough books after all the reward copies go out, and I want to keep a few myself for the future. So. Good. I'm happy.
The printing process will involve the company sending me a hard proof copy to review, and after I give the OK on that, it will be another 2 weeks of turn-around time for them to print all the real copies, and then a week to ship them. Hopefully they'll be on my doorstep before Halloween, and I'll mail them out to you guys as soon as I can after that.
Just wanted to let you know it's finally moving along. I will contact all of you in the next few weeks to get your addresses and any other preferences, like, for anyone whose getting a sweet poster, you'll be able to choose the front cover, the back, or the whole thing wrapped together landscape-style. Again, that will be in a few more weeks. I need a little break from thinking about this book for a while.
In the meantime, here's what the final cover layout ended up looking like. There are some big changes and some small since the last time I posted it.
Thanks again!
