Just came back around on a Lazy Sunday afternoon. Looking at my dog the past few hours (first taking in some sun on the Patio, then enjoying a Nap on the Sofa. He brings me more joy than I could ever imagine and has definitely "saved me from falling(failing)"----more than a few times. This is a beautiful Project. The only thing I can think "happens" it's either the "Bystander" effect ("Psychological Phenomenon that refers to cases where individuals do not offer any means of help in an emergency situation to the victim when other people are present".). Or Possibly-"Learned Helplessness" "The term "learned helplessness" suggests that a person has been taught to feel helpless and think in self-defeating ways. In other words the person has been taught that nothing he or she can do will make a difference, that they can do nothing right, that others know better than they do, and that they have little or no power and control over either their own lives or external events. The term was coined by Martin Seligman." I simply don't get when people don't "Help" (especially members of "the community"--it's obvious you have a TREMENDOUS amount of Talent. (Great "eyes" for Photography, etc.)--Simply dumbfounded. ---When my friend (a Board Member of a rescue group--gets frustrated--I tell her to remind people of "The Starfish" story. Maybe that will help. ****************************************** While walking along a beach, an elderly gentleman saw a young boy in the distance leaning down, picking something up and throwing it into the ocean. As he got closer, he noticed that the boy was picking up starfish one by one and tossing each one back into the water. He came closer still and called out, “Good morning! May I ask what you are doing?” The boy paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean.” The old man smiled, and said, “Why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?” The boy replied, “The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.” The elderly man commented, “Young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can’t possibly make a difference!” The boy bent down, picked up another starfish, threw it into the back into the ocean. “'Made a difference to that one.'.”
