Posted project update #9MxNM Development Continues
Post CommentHey there... Sorry to have been so quiet lately. I spent the summer working with two friends opening a restaurant in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. You can find out more about it here. Anyhow, I am back to work actively developing my MxNM concept. For those of you interested in the direction it is taking, you can join the forum, sign up for the mailing list, and read updates at the official MxNM site. You can also read more in depth about the development process at my blog.
Thanks again for your support. I look forward to completely a new version of MxNM in the very near future.

Posted project update #8MxNM LE Update to Be Submitted for Approval This Week
Post CommentMxNM LE the limited functionality version of MxNM has been well received by iPad users around the world. It has also proven to be a great sandbox for developing the ideas that will be implemented in the full version. This week, (or early the next) the last major update to MxNM LE (for a while at least) will be submitted to the app store. This update will allow users to label the tracks and pads. One set of labels will be saved. In the future, support for several (or perhaps unlimited) sets of labels will be implemented.
This update has allowed me to delve deep into core data and database programming in the iPhone SDK. These technologies are essential to the completion of the full version of MxNM.
I'll keep you posted.

Posted project update #7Thank you
As you probably know by now, my project was successfully funded. Thank you for that.
So now what? I'll be getting in touch with you as needed to fulfill your reward(s). Postcards are going out to the printer no later than tomorrow and will be headed to you early next week. I'm tying up some loose ends here and there and will be beginning work on the full version of MxNM in the next few days.
I'll keep you posted as to the progress of the application's development.
Thanks again,
Jameson

JP1971 MxNM: iPad Audio_MIDI by Jameson Proctor
The Apple iPad is a platform capable of innovative forms of musical expression. JP1971's Mix and Match MIDI Pad (MxNM) will take advantage of that.

Posted project update #6We did it!!!
Yesterday, I reached my funding goal of $1500 with my 20th backer. Today, with 10 days to go, support continues to come in. I would like to thank everyone who has helped me meet and exceed this goal.
I have been wearing a lot of hats lately (coffee gopher, finance, marketing and PR, tech), working hard to make this venture a success. MxNM LE has been selling steadily and is holding it's place among the top 100 iPad music applications. I'm looking forward to using what I have learned so far to develop my next application and introduce another product to the market.
Once again, thank you, and let me reiterate just how important each and every dollar has and will be to the success of what I hope will become a full fledged development business.

Posted project update #5MxNM LE Now Available in the iPad App Store
Post CommentI may be a little worse for wear as a result, but, after much back and forth with Apple, the limited edition of my MxNM application made it into the app store for the iPad launch today. You can check it out here.
It feels great to be ahead of schedule, and I'm looking forward to picking up my iPad this morning and finally seeing the app on its intended platform.
I'll post some video footage of MxNM LE in action sometime over the next couple of days.

Posted project update #4MxNM LE Screenshot
Post CommentI'm working hard to have an application in the iPad App store when it opens on April 3rd. To this end, I have designed a limited edition of MxNM. It can also be thought of as the "Live Edition" as it was designed to work seamlessly with Ableton Live, a popular performance and production software suite.
I'm really excited about this first iteration of MxNM, and I think it will give you an idea as to what's in store for the full release. There is a combination of 144 buttons and sliders that allow the user superb tactile control of the software. Plus, the iPad's support for multiple "pages" will allow for even more controls as well as templates for other applications.
As you can see, the interface is complete. Now I need to implement all those controls. I'll post a video of the MxNM in action when I'm done.

Posted project update #3Hello World!
Post CommentI meant to post this update yesterday, but I've been working around the clock trying to meet Apple's 5PM Saturday deadline.
Anyhow, Hello World! programs and circuits are used to test the basic functionality of software and hardware. Programs are written to display (yep, you guessed it) "Hello World!" Circuits are constructed to flash a sole LED. Starting with very basic functionality in this manner keeps developers and designers from getting ahead of themselves and students from becoming overwhelmed.
In the case of MxNM, I knew that, before I did anything else, I wanted to generate sound via a wireless connection from the application to a MIDI enabled audio application running on a remote computer. Without this basic functionality, all other work would be in vain. Well, yesterday I was able to play middle C on a software piano running on a Mac mini from an iPad simulator app running on a laptop. Woo hoo!!! Now I guess it's time to really get to work.

Posted project update #2iPad App Store Submissions Come Early
Post CommentAccording to this article, Apple announced last Friday that it would begin accepting applications for inclusion in its iPad App Store this week. Furthermore, applications not received by 5 PM this Friday will not make it into the initial launch of the store on April 3rd.
While I think it goes against Apple's philosophy (and any conscientious programmer's), I do plan to have at least a limited edition of MxNM completed for submission. I'll keep you posted on the progress, and upload some video when I have a prototype up and running.

Posted project update #1iPad Pre-Order
Post CommentI woke up first thing this morning and placed my pre-order for an iPad. Apparently I wasn't the only one. According to InformationWeek, nearly 50,000 pre-orders were placed in the first two hours. Analysts estimate that Apple will sell 1,000,000 by tomorrow. You can read more here.
My current goal is to have a beta version of MxNM complete by April 3 - the day the iPad arrives. This will allow me to start beta testing on the hardware on the first day it is publicly available.

What's going on now? Any updates?
