Posted project update #5WE DID IT!
Post CommentDear Truthfuls,
Thank you so much for our second successful Kickstarter campaign. This fundraiser moved us into the black on our premiere of the opera, TRUTH- we can pay our bills! Costumes, sets, lights, publicity - all moving forward because of you. We are so grateful to you all. So we have had a wildly busy week staging - our out of towners are staying in Northampton and we are working on Act II as we speak. That's where Sojourner Truth goes to New York City and becomes involved with the cult of Matthias - a whirlwind of action! We have a big photo shoot tonight for all of our press and it's only about a month til show time. Your devotion and faith got us to this place so we thank you and can't wait to show you to your seats.
With much gratitude,
Linda McInerney

Posted project update #4What a great Christmas Present!!
Post CommentDear Truth family,
Well it's almost Christmas and we have reached our goal already. You are the best! And rehearsals are going beautifully. We have prepared our chorus to be ready for staging in January. Paula has worked wildly hard to recompose for all the changes that we have made thanks to our dear audience members who have been faithfully attending our readings and talkbacks and we are ready to work hard for the final push to present it all to you in February at the Academy of Music in Northampton. What a blessing to have you all in our lives. We will keep you posted on the next layer of process!
With deep gratitude,
Linda

Posted project update #2Giving Thanks!
Post CommentWhat a great Thanksgiving for TRUTH. We have two new backers who have tipped us into reaching nearly 70% of our goal - and all before the turkey is cooked! Thank you so much Jay and Tim for your generous gifts to the opera. Hope that you are all safe and dysfunction-minimal this holiday and we will keep you posted on our progress. Rehearsal with the cast of Act III tomorrow - we are so happy to ready our work for you.
Let me share a lyric from Act III when Sojourner speaks in Northampton, MA.
I think I can see my mother now
As she stood that night
Under heaven
"My child we will be sold
and we won't see each other again.
But when you are far away
remember I see the same moon
I see the same stars
when we die we shall both go
to the same heaven."
I haven't seen her since.
Mama told me to pray to God
to make bad people good.
But I prayed God'd kill 'em,
seemed quicker I guess.
Since then, God taught me mercy,
Jesus is mercy.
But come judgment day
what will the white people say?
Slavery must end today.
It was early in the morning,
it was early in the morning,
just at the break of day
when he rose, when he rose,
and went to heaven on a cloud. -

Posted project update #1Almost halfway there!
Post CommentDear ones- thank you so much for your faith in TRUTH - it's amazing to think that after only our first couple of weeks that we are almost halfway there. Rehearsals are going beautifully. We have a staged reading of Act III at Smith College on December 1st and then will start staging the whole opera. And, if you can believe it, tickets go on sale next Tuesday. It's really a dream come true. What a blessing to have you all as part of our family.
With gratitude, Linda
