Corey: TL;DR: Yes, you can sand them. Afaik, the Printrbot is just a cheaper design and parts-sourcing for a RepRap. So anything the RepRap can do the Printrbot can do. The materials people print with using RepRaps and Makerbots are the same as what you can print with using the Printrbot, so ABS or PLA. The software is probably going to be ReplicatorG, but any of the softwares out there for RepRaps and Makerbots will work. These softwares will let you change the Fill Settings. If you increase the fill amount or change the fill pattern you change how well the part will stand up to different types of stress.

The first thing I'm going to print are some replacement shaft couplers for those stepper motors! I've seen so many designs on thingiverse, like Hoeken's Shaft Coupler http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5097, and the Helical Shaft Coupler http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4804. I also want to print something to stabilize the vertical rods. And a case so it sits on a desk nicer, without looking like a fragile piece of in-progress electronics :D. Maybe something I can rest a laptop on. Also, I've seen people with spindle holders?
