Posted project update #1Nearing the end of our first week.
As we are coming to the close of our first week of life here with this project, I am very thankful to the people who have put their hard earned money on the line in support of our dream.
This isn't only about building a great app for the iPad, its about changing the way people approach software development in general. If we succeed here, we set a precedent that could open the door for smart, talented, underfunded developers to receive the backing they need to do something wonderful.
Now I know there has been some concern about the amount we are hoping to raise for this project. 30,000 is a lot of money and probably seems like more than we would need to write this app. I understand how it could look that way, but the reality is that this is very little money when you are talking about commercial software development.
This isn't a simple app we are building. Most of the important parts we are having to discover how to create because there just isn't easy, baked in support in iOS for the features we need. To pull this off in six months we are going to need to work on this full time.
That means my business won't be generating any income for 6 months. The only income we will have to live on would be coming from this project.
Thanks again for those who have decided to support us, and thanks to those who have voiced concern and reservations. I value transparency, openness and frank discussion. There isn't enough of it in the world today.

Development on the iPad by Chris J. Davis
The iPad has changed the way we interact with the internet, but what about those of us who create the internet? Devpad is the answer.

Def feel that 30K is a reasonable amount to need to make for 6 months. Don't budge on that - especially if you got a family bro!
30k for 6 months is entirely reasonable. I created Newsie for iPhone, so I suppose I know something about that ;)
