hi art and strawberry lovers,
together nearly $1400 was pledged for the marshall strawberry and rising fields!!
thank you all so much for your support, kind words and energy in spreading the word. while today marks the end of this kickstarter campaign, it’s only the beginning in terms realizing this work of art. this is my big dream, so don’t go anywhere!!! I now have 75 marshalls and they still need a home!!!
your credit cards will not be charged here as kickstarter is all or nothing and the full amount wasn’t accumulated in time. but I’ve set up a website and a paypal account specifically dedicated to fund raising for rising fields. please consider following the link and donating your funds there. i will still honor the incentives, keep a running total of monies donated, number of strawberry plants, and provide regular updates as things progress. our first tasks will be to decide on companion plants and post polaroids of the marshalls so you can name your adopted babies! Next up will be to locate a host community. I will continue fund raising efforts until we reach $18500. my goal is to have enough to purchase land by this time next year or sooner.
As you know, these berries have been with me for four years, and this is a huge step forward. I’m so excited for the adventure that lies ahead.
to transfer your donation and continue your participation in rising fields, please go to www.risingfields.org. you will automatically be added to the mailing list to receive updates unless you request otherwise.
to infinity and beyond!

Posted project update #2News!
Post CommentHi everyone,
Dawn Hewitt of the Bloomington Herald Times published a wonderful piece about the project last monday. Subscribers to the HT can read/watch it here: http://www.heraldtimesonline.com/stories/2011/08/29/news.qp-3155281.sto. I also have it in .pdf, but i can't seem to post that here, so i will do so on the website when it's launched.
Kim Hummer, Research Leader for the USDA ARS National Clonal Germplasm Repository in Corvallis, Oregon heard about the article and wrote to give me an update on the Marshall. Since I started the effort 4 years ago they have sent out 171 runners to folks around the country! It's unclear how many plants of those are still alive today, but it's a hopeful sign, even if the interest is passing curiosity. Hopefully as word of this project spreads, perhaps some of these growers will reach out so we can form a network. She also introduced me to the rest of their collection--ancient pear trees, antique apples and other heritage strawberries for us to grow on rising fields! I'm beyond excited to add some of these to our collection.
10 days left on this campaign to raise the bulk of the funding. Kickstarter is all or nothing so if the entire amount is not raised in time, I will lose what you all so graciously contributed. So if everyone has a few spare moments this holiday weekend, please pass the word along far and wide! Any ideas about how I can further get the word out, companies or organizations I might approach and the like are welcome.
Thank you all very much,
Love Leah and Marshall

Posted project update #1We're Underway!
Post CommentThanks to extraordinary generosity Marshall and Me is 2% funded! There is still a long way to go, but this is an amazing start after only 2 days without any pre-launch promotion.
I've started my first personal facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1323871952 (yes i know i'm way behind the times), should anyone feel moved to post our project to their masses.
Much appreciation to all of my initial backers for getting things going.
Love, Leah and Marshall

Post CommentThanks you backers of Sharecropper. Just after launch I had a series of family emergencies and was not able to promote this project. Sharecropper lives on though, in my Bloomington backyard and community garden!
Sincerely, Leah
