Posted project update #2Update #2
Post CommentFirst of all thank you to all of those who have backed. It is so nice to know I have such wonderful friends and family that will support what I do as well as many anonymous members of New Orleans who have backed because they have a shared vision.
I know there is only a week left, and we still have over half our goal to meet, but I feel confident that the goal can still be reached. Most people feel the most motivated to back projects at the beginning and end of the fundraising run.
There have been also many people have have contributed other than financially, and I thank them also. We have been busy working on the new space: painting, cleaning, and brainstorming. Mary and Micah, two creative minds I'm very fond of have donated their time and effort, after their speakeasy, Breezys had to shut its doors. Luckily they have a lot of New Orleans history to bring over to The Alamo Underground. They are going to help put in a projector screen later this month, so the Alamo will be able to continue showing movies! Mary is a cool local artist and you can check her out here: http://www.marydipasquale.com/.
We also have more Bagel minded people on board. Artz bagels has agreed to copartner in bagel making with Laura Sugerman. Between the two entities we are going to have some really unique flavored and authentically made bagels-get ready for a chocolate chip bagel! I have been talking to local farmers markets because I plan to make all the bagel toppings from local veggies. Check out Artz Bagels here: http://artzbagelz.com/. And if you are in New Orleans, I really reccomend you stop by and try one of them.
We are also excited because our house band, Slammin' Bones has been in the studio recording, and they sound great!http://wwwslamminbones.webstarts.com/index.html?r=20110806123950
So thanks again! Spread the word. I hope to see you all at our opening in November.

Posted project update #12 Weeks Left
Post CommentThank you all for donating. There are two weeks left until the Kickstarter expires, and we get closer to our goal each day. Of course, The Alamo Underground will find a way to exist regardless of funding. But with the initial capital, we will be able to open sooner and with a full shared vision. So continue to share the word!
I've been busy dealing with city hall, discussing bagel toppings, gathering speak-easy leaders, and cleaning the space. There are some exciting art collaborations on the way.
The goal of the Alamo is not to seek profit, but to seek talent and the struggle to better talent. We never want to feel settled.
I know a lot of you have been wondering if we are still going to screen movies, just like in the good ol' Alamo. And the answer is, things are looking good. Movie nights are being planned in the attached theater (La Nuit) which is a raw, intimate, amazing theater uptown. La Nuit Theater, The Box Office Bar, and The Alamo Underground will be working together on ideas and events.
If you've already donated, check out your name on: http://www.thealamounderground.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=52&Itemid=58
And I will leave you with a list of some Bagel Specialties to be served:
Egg & Cheese, Pizza Bagel w/choice of toppings, Tuna Melt, Veggie Melt, Peanut Butter & Nutella, Nutella & Banana, Cream Cheese & Lox, Hummus & Veggie, Cream Cheese & Jalapeno
Thanks again!
