Posted project update #7After the Exam
Hello Everyone,
This is Kelley Katzenmeyer, the director of the documentary on Korean high school students. Thank you all for your support!

.
For the past six months, we have been documenting 5 Korean students. Last month, the students completed their College Entrance Exam, 수능 "Su-nung". Now we are documenting their lives in the aftermath of the test-- how the exam has affected their future, for better or worse.
As the documentation of our 5 main students comes to a close, we are now translating and editing the hundreds of hours of footage we have collected so far (6 terabytes!)

.
Up to this point, our documentation has mainly focused on how Korean education affects the individual students who endure it. However, now that the 2011 Su-nung is over, we are beginning to shift our efforts towards understanding why Korea became so competitive. We're interested in how Korean education works as a system, and the aspects of Korean history and culture that may have led to the development of its current hyper-competitive environment.
Similarly, we're interested in researching the history of the Korean ideal of beauty-- how beauty standards changed, and when one's physical appearance became a competitive asset, like the name of one's college.
Anyway, thank you all again for your support! We're working our hardest to make this film as well-researched, compelling, and impactful as possible. Our goal is to finish the film by August 2012, at which point we will send out copies of the film and all of your prizes!
Additionally, If anyone would like to help with researching or translating, please contact us! :) (We really need help translating. If you're fluent in Korean, translate a few hours of footage and we'll send you an extra copy of the DVD, signed.)
Anyway, thank you all so much! You have made so much possible!

There are now only 17 days left until the Korean College Entrance Exam.

17 days left on the exam countdown calendar in a high school senior classroom.

Wish them a great luck. I always feel thankful that I am not in Korea and I DON'T have to go though "The Hell" they call, when this season comes. It's actually really sad that exam make their all year dreadful instead of delightful which I think it should be since it is their 3rd/last yr. Anyways wish you good luck too Kelley!

Posted project update #2New Website and Footage
Hello Kickstarter Supporters!
This is Kelley, the director of the documentary film on Korean high school. Thank you all so much for your support. With the money we received, we've been able to buy several cameras to give to students. It's been lots of fun giving them the equipment and teaching them filming techniques.
We've also started our own website-- www.KoreanHighSchool.com
On our site you can find an updated version of our Kickstarter fundraising video, with some new footage we haven't released yet. On the site you can also find an excerpt from the previous film I directed, "To Be Remembered".
Although we've been able to buy four cameras (which is amazing!) we still need to buy one more. We are also struggling affording other expenses- such as memory cards, tripods, sound equipment, and external hard drives to store the footage. We are now accepting pledges on our website via PayPal. We've kept all the exciting awards that were on our Kickstarter-- so if you have any friends that might be interested in pledging, please spread the word! We need as much help as we can get.
Thank you all so much for your support! Being able to get cameras for these students has been amazing.
Looking forward to making this film (and showing it to all of you!),

Thank you all so much for your support! We surpassed our Kickstarter goal and are on our way to making the film! Thank you all so much. We will soon be starting a website and blog, so you all can check up on the film's progress.

.
In the next few weeks we'll buy the cameras for the students. The documentation of our students' lives will continue until their nine-hour-long final exam in November.
Kickstarter prizes will be sent out once the film is complete (as a copy of the final film will be included in the mailed packages).
Again, thank you all so much!
