Believe it or not--- although I hope everyone believes it--- the situation hasn't changed at all for that particular plan. It's hard to impart how mired in bureaucracy this whole thing is. Unfortunately I also can't talk very openly about the specifics. If the people in power continue to be obstinate through the winter I'm likely going to start looking in another neighborhood though.

Thanks Bill. I'm glad to be on a new track. As far as the abandoned house on the next block up, it's the same situation as a lot of unintended owners of property in Pittsburgh--- they inherited it but don't want it. They tend to gamble that some day the property values in Pittsburgh will turn around and the house they have let sit vacant for years will be worth big bucks. Unfortunately what generally happens is the house falls into great disrepair after having been vacant for so long. When you think about it, it's not a bad financial risk for them--- if they are not paying property taxes or upkeep, then the worst that can happen is that some day the house is taken over by the city, which is as much a zero dollar loss as if they had given it away. And during that whole time that the house sits waiting, the unicorn of property value just might tramp through. Of course, this is bad for the neighborhood, and terrible for me personally. But, on to Plan B+.

Though the outcome of the court date sounds like a real sigh-inducer, congrats on the milestone and the fact that it shifts your gears into a new track.
Why does that gentleman want to keep hanging onto an abandoned house that's basically worthless to him?

Posted project update #4Still with the waiting...
I just got to the stage of the buying-an-abandoned-house-from-the-city process where they accept my money order as a deposit in case they decide to sell me the house. They say that I should have some kind of answer back in late January.
Meanwhile I'm trying to figure alternate things out, but they're under wraps right now. So many abandoned houses in my neighborhood, and yet they're so hard to get. Winter is coming, and every winter a house spends abandoned lessens its likelihood of ever being occupied in the future.
Happy holidays, and I'll let you know if anything newsworthy happens.

I heard this quote yesterday on the radio about green building, "The greenest building is the one that is already built." I wish you and all the other building savers all the best, Kevin McCloskey
