Posted project update #7We Finished it!!
Post CommentAfter months of working with the Museo de los Ninos, the Computer Clubhouse Bogota and Gold Crown Computer Clubhouse we finally finished arteMural 2012!! With the help of over 30 participants, 2 countries, parents, non artists, staff, even 4 years olds, the murals were completed. Two sprawling, panoramic canvasses measuring about 30 feet wide by about 4 feet high. Success!! It was a grueling last couple weeks working almost everyday, but it was totally worth it. On one of our last days in Colombia, Cori and I celebrated the completion of the project with the young artists involved, friends, and family members. We also watched the Video that one of our members created. Thank you Juan Pablo!! And thanks to all of you, our wonderful backers that helped make this project happen! We could not have done what was done without your support....words alone can not express our gratitude.. This project was truly a life changing experience for many involved and a model of collaborative, cross-cultural art exchanges.
That said, the surveys are out as we hope to gather mailing addresses from all backers. We will be sending out your rewards in the next month as we can....please let us know if there are any specific mailing issues we need to know. Thank you!
Enjoy the pictures of the completed masterpiece! Let us know what you think.

Posted project update #6Let's Paint!!!
Post CommentWhat started as workshops, brainstorm sessions, games, chatting, making friends has turned into a full on mural project. ArteMural has officially begun folks!! With that said, we would like to share some moments from the past weeks. We have been busy trying to get the kids excited to work large scale (the dimensions of the first part are 15ft wide by about 4ft high) and there are two panorama canvases, and we have been busy getting involvement from the Computer Clubhouse in Denver. So far, we have been very successful at collaborating with the Denver kids, hosting a series of Skype meetings among the youth members. The design ideas have come from kids in both Clubhouses, therefore linking up Denver with Bogota, making this an international mural design. The ideas have been good too! We are remixing the idea of personal identity with national symbols and international relations. What do these kids have in common? How can they identity with eachother, creatively, and from a different location?
Our job is to not only engage the kids in this process but also have their ideas come into play. It's their mural after all. We are here to help them execute the work, build relations with the members, and foster a community of young people working together to accomplish a goal. The goal is to create a beautiful work of art and inspire those involved to continue to challenge themselves while pursuing their interests. Equally important, the goal is also to train an army of artists: drawers, painters, designers, brainstormers etc. So far so good. The feedback from the Museo and community has been amazing! We are about half way done and still going strong....Enjoy the pictures!

Posted project update #5Workshops In Action
Post CommentAs you can see in the following pictures, we have been busy developing workshop activities and planning cool art sessions. The brainstorming continues. We start every workshop with group discussions revolving around these topics: Colombian/USA identity and personal identity. Then, we get to the fun stuff, painting techniques, collage techniques, stencil, photo transfer, mixed media, etc. There have been kids stepping up to help teach workshops with us, helper-outer/translators, video makers and photographers. These are fun and creative times!!

Posted project update #3Ready, Set, Go
Post CommentAlright Alright. Happy New Year! 2012 is here and the time has come to update you all about the Mural Project in Bogota, Colombia. There is actually a name for this entire project, Arte Mural. With your help and that of the Museo de Los Ninos, the project has become bigger than we expected!! There are 60 young participants (ages 10-22) registered, the materials have been acquired, and the stage is set for us to begin.
Cori and I were greeted like celebrities on the opening day of the project. We arrived as a surprise for the kids and now realize what we are working with. What we are working with is a great group of kids, they are smart, they are funny, silly, shy, playful, engaged, curious, energetic, they are kids just like back home. We speak Spanish, they speak English. We play their games, they play ours. What brings everyone together is our creative drive. Each one of them brings something different and we can't wait to showcase that. Already friends we will continue to build these relationships in the coming weeks as the various stages of the project unfold.
For now, we are ready to get working! The kids are coming from schools in the area to discuss what the mural is going to look like. Our creative juices are flowing and we once again realize what a blessing it is to be here, on the onset of our dream, thankful for your support and presence in this huge project!!!
Thanks and get ready for increasing updates,
Cori and Dan

Posted project update #1We did it!!!! You did it!!!! Colombia here we come...
Cori and I are happy to announce that we have successfully reached our goal of $3,000...and then some!!. Actually and surprisingly, you helped us raise $3, 486 towards our goal so THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
Wow, We appreciate it very much. We could not have reached our goal without your wonderful support. We did reach our goal (last minute style) and just in time for the trip. So we should be set to establish a successful program down there and get working on this pilot project. Our contacts in Colombia are just as excited to begin the project as we are.
We will keep you informed with everything through kickstarter updates or our blog that we will start very soon. Remember that we hope to keep everyone in the loop and stay in touch okay!!
That's it for now, the shock is slowly abating as the realization of our immediate future comes into effect. Let's get it..
