Posted project update #8A smile on my face
Mike Davis, you put a big smile on my face....and I don't even know who you are...it's great when this happens.. I'm not sure who "Alan" is either. It's one thing when board members or museum members, or even really old friends pledge, but when folks I don't know are supporting this, it makes me feel like the Grinch whose tiny heart grows inside him.
Not lots of time left, but somehow, I know we're going to make this.
Hector, our architect has revised the theatre section of the building. There's now a basement (with offices, dressing rooms, storage) and to let light in, he's created a litle amphitheatre along side the building going into the ground, which will allow light to enter, and be another great space, this one outdoors, for smaller events.
Thanks to all for your continued support...now go tell your like-minded friends, so I can thank even more people I don't know!

Posted project update #750 days left!
Post CommentThank you to all who have pledged so far. We're almost a third of the way there, with about half our time for raising funds left. If you know anyone who cares about history, cares about educating our children (even Teacher's College at Columbia U has come to us to learn how we teach about the Lenape), cares about movies and film making, please let them know about this project, and ask them to pledge. If you are completely wired in, don't forget to post this on facebook and tweet it, tell the people you are linked to on linkedIn, etc. If the societs could launch a chimp into space, we can do this!

Posted project update #6Ya Gotta Have Friends
Post CommentIf you've checked out the project profile and my profile here on kickstarter, you'll see I have also pledged to the Cathedral City project. A college friend has been trying to raise the funds for this film. we've talked about it before, and when Diana heard about kickstarter from my facebook post, she asked me about it, and I sent her an invitation to set up a project. Since then, we have been rooting for each other, egging each other on, supporting each other when the donations slow, etc. Sometimes, when the donations flow, when my posts to fb and tweets seem to be ignored, I feel like I'm lost in the wilderness (except, of course for the few stalwarts riding in this wagon with me -- those who have already pledged). It's great to have someone with another project here, going through the same joys with each pledge post and angst on the quiet days. Since Diana and I haven't seen each other in MANY years, since college, this long-distance internet connection has been remarkably fulfilling. Here's to Cathedral City being shown in the theater of the museum's cultural and community center!

Posted project update #5Our Musuem had a great day
Post CommentSo today I was able to stand in front of a room of more than 100 people and accept a Greater Hudson Heritage Network "award towards excellence" for the outreach aspects of our film programs at the museum this year. This was our lecture-screening series on women in the early film industry and our exhibit "The Star is Born: a History of the movie star in America." We will be able to do sooo much more once we can complete our new building. Thank you to those who have started us on our way, let's keep spreading the word, so the museum can continue to educate children and adults about all the aspects of our rich history.

Posted project update #4Exciting
Post CommentI love the fact that there are people who are pledging who I don't know at all. I'm so thrilled we've topped the $1000 mark, but so far to go on so few days. Thank you to all who've supported so far! Keep spreading the word.

Posted project update #3A little but more
Post CommentThis is starting to get exciting....someone I've met only once and someone I have no idea who they are have pledged for this project....looks like we really are going viral. Could this "spread the word" experiment really work? If you're reading this, and you haven't reposted, emailed or tweeted this, please do and let's spread the word. A new arts center and research library...something the world actually does need. Thank you to all who have pledged so far.

We've met, once, summer 2008. But you know my mom, Jonni. The museum means a lot to her.
Ahhhhh....And Jonni and your family mean a lot to the museum!
